Two months after the spectacular conclusion of the 2014 Call of Duty® Championship, the eSports battle rages on.

This weekend – Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st – the first leg of the Australian Cyber League will take place in Brisbane, Australia. With 24 confirmed teams battling in 4v4 Call of Duty®: Ghosts matches, ACL Brisbane promises to excite with plenty of action from new and veteran players alike.

What’s at Stake

Prize Pool:

1st: $1600

2nd: $1000

3rd: $400

In addition to the lion’s share of the prize pool, the winning team will also receive an automatic invite to the International League Playoffs at MLG Anaheim. They’ll skip the open bracket and get right to the heart of the competition with a $70,000 prize pool sought by the best teams from America and Europe.

Who to Watch

With 24 teams, it can be difficult for newcomers to know where to start. While much of the excitement of eSports lies in the uncertainty of who will come out on top, we’ve listed some local teams from Australia and New Zealand that are certain to put up a good fight:

Curse AU (formerly Trident T1dotters): 5th at the 2014 Call of Duty Championship, 1st place at the Call of Duty Championship ANZ Finals

Team Immunity: 13th-16th at the 2014 Call of Duty Championship, 2nd place at the Call of Duty Championship ANZ Finals

Avant Garde: 3rd at the Call of Duty Championship ANZ Finals
