Casuals are destroying this series.

And no, I'm not talking about laz0r beam AR's, EZ mode Pro Perk challenges, the Box of Skill or deathstreaks. I'm talking about the fact that they don't care if this game progresses or not. That is the reason why this series is going down hill. They buy anything with "Cod" on it. Do they push the devs for a better game? No. Do they give a rat's a$s about the spawns? No. Do they care about the amount of problems this game has? Nope. They say "I play for fun." Funny thing is, if they push the devs for a better quality game, it would probably be even more fun. I honestly give this series 3 more years until the devs start putting in only one map with 1,000,000,000 problems. Such a shame really.

It is the Tony Hawk effect coming in.

This game is just saturated with players, so the game won't die as quickly as other great games Activision has milked.

Last CoD before the milking and copypasta really got started was MW2.

Also like how my thread is in the "More Like This" section (Aww, Hit Detection!).

They do really need to move on, progress the series. Many many people are just tired of playing the same game. Every year, another call of duty which means a couple new perks and killstreaks, not really anything else. As long as it is making millions it will continue this way.

If TA goes with a Black Ops 2, I am going to laugh.

Will they ever let the Developers work on a new IP and let CoD rest until they come up with better ideas for it? Or go with a spin-off with the game like BF and GTA did and develop the actual sequel to the main series behind curtains?

If only more competent people handled this franchise.

Then there are those "hardcore . pro" type players who consider progress as having one weapon with 10 or 15 skins for it, so you can stand in a void shooting little red dots in the corner of your screen.

That kind of game would surely be more likely to have less glitches and lag issues.

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

Well, how can you progress when you already have a near perfect formula?  Think about it, Assault/Specialist package caters to vets, Support/deathstreaks caters to newbs.  Every gun tier has at least one worthwhile gun and every perk sees (at least a bit of) use by every player, something we've never seen in any CoD before.

All this game needs is MW2 lag compensation and BO features like Combat Training or the ability to watch people in 1st person in Theatre.

Though Casuals are not destroying the series, frankly Casuals are how this game recieved the prestige it has (also how it sold millions on release).

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
    MysticJon

The weapons are unbalanced (SCAR, ACR, Type 95, UMP, P90, MP7, fully-auto shotguns, Akimbo machine pistols, all overpowered).

The perks are fairly balanced, though some are clearly too powerful (Assasin Pro comes to mind).

Attachments are fairly balanced (though why do we need Red Dot Sight, Holographic Sight AND Acog Scope, if we have Hybrid Sight and HAMR Scope now?).

Proficiencies are unbalanced (its basically giving players a fourth perk).

Maps are unbalanced (they're too small and that leads right into my next point)...

Spawns are terrible (because the maps are so small).

Servers are a decade old. No online game that takes itself seriously still uses P2P servers. They are laggy, buggy, glitchy and cause latency and hit detection issues. There is no reason not to be using dedicated servers for CoD. If CoD wants to progress and not be taken over by franchises like Battlefield, Activision needs to pump out dedicated servers and Infinity Ward needs to seriously question their meaning of balance (or just let Treyarch make CoD).

    • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

I used to run Assassin, then I took a bullet to the knee, then I realized the only good the perk ever does is make it take longer to ADS and to pull out grenades, makes you vulnerable to explosives, makes getting pointstreaks all the time impossible, and makes it so assists don't count towards your pointstreaks :/

    • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
      brandaman

You didn't just say the UMP was overpowered...

What's wrong with a fourth perk? As long as everyone gets it, then it's fair.

Treyarch is way worse at balance than IW.

Balance Issues in CoD4: M16A4 with Stopping Power, Frag Grenades, Martyrdom, Last Stand

Balance Issues with WaW: The MP40, Bouncing Betties, Martyrdom, Second Chance

Balance Issues in MW2: Grenade Launchers, One Man Army, Danger Close, Stopping Power with no counter, Commando, Tactical Insertion in FFA, Last Stand, Deathstreaks, Sacvenger claymores, UMP45, M16/FAMAS with Stopping Power, ACR, shotgun secondaries, machine pistol secondaries, Chopper Gunner, Tactical Nuke

Balance Issues in Black Ops: Second Chance, RCXD

Balance Issues in MW3: Type 95, machine pistol secondaries, Tactical Insertion in Free For All, Deathstreaks, shotguns underpowered

Treyarch knows what they're doing, the blind hatred against them is getting a bit annoying.

As a XBOX 360 player, I've only despised Treyarch over how they poorly develop the PS3 & PC version of their COD Titles.

They still make decent COD games but they need to employ more PS3 engineers as their current engineers are doing a terrible job with PS3.

I have played Black Ops on the PS3 & it's horrendous compared to the XBOX 360 version.

It's unfair considering that we all the same price for one game yet one console and PC are undeveloped and not testing regularly for framerate drops/bugs/glitches etc.

      • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
        MysticJon

UMP is the most overpowered SMG. High power combined with little recoil.

Its fair because everyone gets it? OK, lets add a laser guide homing rocket launcher that locks on to enemies and has an explosion like a Predator Missile. But, lets unlock for everyone. Guess thats perfectly fair, since everyone gets it.

Treyarch can better balance a game in their sleep than IW can on their best day. Fact.

Lmao. Which is why every gun in Black ops was a copy-pasta of another, right? Oh, let's not forget about the automatic sniper known as the MP40. Great balance.

        • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
          vims1990

I still think the P90, MP7, PP90M1 compete well against the UMP 45

          MP5 isn't too bad...but not as good at the COD4 MP5.

        • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
          brandaman

The UMP kills in the same amounts of shots as every other SMG, has the lowest ROF, and moderate recoil. It takes SIX shots to kill at long range. It dishes out the least damage.

How the hell is that overpowered?

And no, that's completely different. By your logic, every perk is unbalanced. Having a third perk is unbalanced. Having a second perk is unbalanced.

Having a fourth perk is in no way similar to the example you gave.

    • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
      mischaelite

Some Prefer a better scope than the Acog. Acog only enhaces distance by x1,4 whereas a Hybrid Scope enhances it by x4. You can build yurself an M21 EBR from your MK14 by leveling it up.

As for the Proficiencies you could call it a 4:th perk if you will but it does behave differently on different guntypes and that is something an ordinary perk does not to the same extent.

For instance the Stability Proficiency is less effective then Kick on an SMG or an AR but more effective than Kick on an LMG or a Sniperrifle (and that is just one example)

Now, if ALL weapons are OP as you say, they are at least balanced or do you want a gunfight to go on for a full 15 seconds, think again. You (and everyone else would go mad) and it would completly destroy the tempo and the pace of the game.

If you need a slower FPS try BF3 or go back to Black Ops. I often go back to CoD4 and MW2 and still have fun with those games and as Elite is now it works better with Black Ops.

( I only got Elite to get the DLC faster and a bit cheaper than if I would be buying them one by one so I got the Hardened Edition so that everything they decide to throw in in the future would be already paid for.)

If you think the UMP is so OP are you sure you are playing MW3 and not MW2? Check your box for referance

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

I have complaints about the game, none of which are mentioned here. Biggest is, Last Stand/Final Stand is STILL in the game. As it is, deathstreaks are in, which is fine. If they only included perks that help you get a kill. Not actually get you a kill. Juiced, Revenge and even hollow points are fine, but marty, final stand and dead mans nue is a bunch of crap.

I don't understand why they did not add combat record. I understand the elite service is suppose to be like that, but I either have to play with my laptop next to me or not look at ppls combar record. I honestly like having the ability to see how a player did in the last 10 games, see what weapon they use the most, or even what killstreak they use.

I've played all the cods, so not a casual (and I mean all, from the very first cod on the PC, not how most think they are veterans because they played from cod4)

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

I say re-release Cod 4 and Waw for $40 with weapon re-balancing and new maps every other year. That way it keeps the fans bussy for a year and gives the devs an extra year to make sure PS3/PC players don't get a crap port and gives them extra time to completly polish their new game.

Ex. MW3> Cod 4 re-release> BO2> WAW re-release> New IW title. And go on from there.

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
    vims1990

Activision make more money off the casuals than off their veteran/hardcore fanbase unfortunately.

I would like to see Activision give their developers to progress their games more by developing a new engine (but with the COD feel) & give their developers time to perfect their game & gather as much feedback as they can from their previous titles.

When you look at the COD cycle, I don't think devs get that opportunity to perfect their games. Whether it's 6 good months to a year of testing the game, they will never get that time considering how a new COD title is releasing on a yearly basis.

I think Vahn mentioned in an interview that he would like at least an extra year on developing/testing their games & I do support that. But as long as Activision are piling up the cash, they'll be thinking "Why should we stop?"

    • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

"Why would we stop?" Because sooner or later a new "Skate" will come along and "Tony Hawk" will be forgotten.

      • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
        vims1990

        Agreed Dave.

I wouldn't be surprised when the next-gen consoles come out, you'll have developers like Crytek with their CryEngine 3 engine & DICE with their Frostbite 2 engine both running at 60 frames per second on the newer consoles whilst you see both IW/Treyarch still using their IW engine which is starting to show it's age.

It's kind of a wake up call to Activision & to their COD developers. How far will they go until they realise that COD will turn out like the Tony Hawk Franchise?

      • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

Exactly. Just how newer music games took over Guitar Hero. The "Skate" for CoD will most likely takeover in a matter of time and revolutionizes the fast-paced FPS subgenre. My bets are saying that EA will be the ones killing off CoD like they did with the lovely TH franchise.                                                                                                                            I also can't post in gray because the site doesn't support iPads completely. -.-

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
    vileself

Its just funny how everyones opinion is different yet everyone thinks they're right. I would say that CoD has progressively gotten better from MW onward. Each one better than the last. MW3, in my opinion is the best CoD by far for many reasons. Does it have flaws? Sure but they are the types of flaws you find in just about every videogame these days like matchmaking issues and lag, yet CoD seems to get the most negative feedback about it simply because its the most popular game.

People who say the game is bad or unplayable are simply lieing out of rage. If the game is so bad and unplayable then why are we all sinking days/weeks/months into it?

Everyone expects the devs to release a perfect game but thats absolutely impossible. Instead they release something that has issues here and there and then they fix and adjust certain things depending on fan feedback. Weapons get nerfed, weapons get buffed, glitches get patched, matchmaking gets tweaked, spawns get adjusted, lag gets modified, features are added etc. The post release support is beyond generous seeing as any one of us could have rented the product before buying it. No one made you buy this product, you did it under your own recognencies. If you think CoD is such a shabby franchise then why not put your money towards something better..or right, there isnt anything better.

I also think that if you arent playing videogames for fun then you're playing for the wrong reasons. People are always trying to dictate how others play, dictate whats fair and unfair and dictate what needs to be changed. Some people think Deathstreaks are unfair and unbalanced, yet others think they are balanced and merely help certain teams from getting slaughtered and possibly rage quitting. So is it right for you to demand that Deathstreaks get removed from the game just because they ruined a couple of your killstreaks? Absolutely not, because when you're the one benefitting from the Deathstreak then everything is fine, its only when you're on the recieving end where you tend to complain about things.

    • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

It isn't about me losing gun battles or matches consistently and being raging all of the time, it is about what the game has become.

The last time this game progressed was MW2. After that, less innovation has been brought to the table. They also added tons of things that aid bad players. Because you need to be spoonfed for being bad at an already easy game.

I didn't know there was a wrong way to play videogames. People have fun doing a huge variety of things in any game. One may like killing cops in GTA rather than doing the story.

Death streaks are unbalanced. DMH ruins shotguns and makes Dead Zone infuriating. Etc. etc. If you want to stop raging because someone is better, get skilled players and team up or get better. You shouldn't be rewarded for dying.

      • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
        cranium2001

I know it's not a perfect world, but wouldn't you think the so-called matchmaking could better suit us with players more in our range? It's really no fun getting wasted by a "stacked" team and no fun being the "stacked" team. The best matches are the close ones in my opinion. Just a theory about how matchmaking is supposed to be.

Very good post. I could not agree more.

Also this forum is sadly not representative of what the majority thinks of the game. I tend to stray away to other forums where tactics and differnt setups are discussed in a friendly manor.

All you hear in this forum is "Change this or that" or "This game sucks man" and it is hardly representative of the rest of the CoD community.

      • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

The other CoD sites are made by fans of the game and they are populated by fans. Of course you will only hear about tactics and no criticism whatsoever.

This site has over 19 million views. It is the most populated CoD site out of all. It may not show a majority, but it shows a large portion.

You don't just see threads about nerfing and buffing. This place has plenty of topics on MOABs and YouTube videos. Why you see more "change this, change that" than anything else? Well, the devs never reply to any of those topics so more and more are made.

I rather see people demand a change than to claim this game as the best CoD. Nothing gets changed when people act like lambs and sheep. As for an example, these horrendous spawns.

        • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

19 million wievs in a year then and take into acount all who logs in 4 times a day to check for updates.

I think the problem is that most threads are related to in game mechanics that is too hard for many players to handle aka n00bs and they tend to take up valuable space from people having real problems like lag or unablitity to play the game.

Even though MW3 worked flawlessly for me at release I will not be so naive as to think BLOPS 2 will work in an instant since Treayarc tends to release unfinished products.

With BLOPS the PS3 players could not play the game properly until february 2011 (4 months after rls). Treyarc also showed their true face by simply saying in that famous january press release that they would not hestitate to cancel multiplayer over the whole PS3 platform should they be unable to fix it.

Since this never has been a problem with IW I would probably wait until their 2013 relase of Call of Duty but I think that Black Ops 2 will probably be the end of call of Duty as we know it. I really hope Treyarc comes up with an engine of their own instead of using IWs old CoD4 engine like they did on w@w and Blops...

No one's issues are being buried.

am i the only 1 that is giving CoD 1 last chance, after this CoD i find that treyarch is the only dev that  cares a bit...but if they screw up the next CoD im done with this series

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

I've been in sales for almost a decade of my life and I can tell you from experience that Activision does not care about fanatics of CoD as much as they do the casual.

The reason being is that theu already know they've got your money and the only thing their interested in is growing their profits. Any sales or marketing person will tell you that you can only grow your profits by getting to the people who are not die hard fans and getting them to spend their money.

Now at point of purchase Activision doesn't care if you're a life long player or you buy it, play it once and never touch it again because it's the same $60.

Over time they will come back and cater to the fanatics in order to groom you for their next CoD title launch so that you'll buy that.

Big business thinks about the big picture. They don't think about what happens just in the present they think about what they need to happen in a year. I'm willing to be you'll be pretty happy with them in a year and waiting for the release of the new titile.

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

seriously this post is stupid, just casue people do not have to time to play 12 hours a day they should not play this game casue of the core gamers?

More casual players than core players so they have to make it good for everyone, when ever you are selling things people are gunna be pissed and people are gunna be happy, but if more are happy than pissed you have a good product, and considering how many people baught the game they ahve more happy than pissed and even with all the bad shi* in the game it is still one of the best FPS ever.

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.
    SuddenlyAlive13

I was thinking about the re-release idea myself. When the new consoles come out, I'm going to miss COD4 through Black Ops, and what if they shut down XBOX live for the 360? A huge chunk of my teenage memories would be gone. So I came up with this:

Every 6 months, they re-release one of the old CODs with touched up graphics, improved spawns, improved connections, and some new maps. It's easy money for activision (which they love) and I get the play my favorites with new maps AND they can work for 3+ years on a new game. If anything those 3 years could be used to design a new engine for the new consoles.

You know, I might be fine with the copy/paste system, but ever since they started doing it, the games have had serious problems with the connection, and that's another thing they could adress in that time. Possibly building the dedicated servers?

I don't know, I'm just starting to grow wreary of these connection problems. And no, it's not my connection, I'm fine on COD4-MW2, it's Black Ops and MW3. I've been playing COD since COD4 and have probably 20+ days played on all of them combined, and MW3 just isnt doing it for me. Lag comp and the shitty maps did it in for me. I havn't given up on the series yet, but I have given up on pre-ordering them. I definetly would not have bought COD elite and MW3 at full price Activision has swindled me for the last time.

    -An angry COD fan.

  • Re: Casuals are destroying this series.

I agree with the sentiment but not the cause.

IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH CASUALS.

    IT'S THE YEARLY RELEASE CYCLE.

I'd like to see 1 studio take care of multiplayer and ALL studios use the same code base.

This should at least stop the same issues occuring with each release and features being randomly added and dropped in each release (though this mainly affects the PC version).

Finally they need to innovate with gameplay mechanics, they haven't changed at least since COD4 and they are by no means perfect.
