A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

As most of the casual community out there know, Ghost-type effects are often disliked in multiplayer gameplay. It causes much frustration and raging when a camper in the corner manages to take you out despite you and your team carefully calling in UAVs. While I applaud the developers for splitting the Ghost from Black Ops into 2 perks, Assassin Pro is still a pain.

Lets look at the drawbacks and benifits of using Assassin.

Drawbacks:

None of the other second tier perks, thus slower ADS, less protection against explosives, no hardline, no 2 primary weapons.

Benifits:

Absolutely immune to being spotted on the mini map when using a suppressor.

When paired with Blind Eye, absolutly invisible to any form of killstreak

Still able to rush when paired with SoH or EC.

Hard to be spotted when laying still. (Pro variant)

Cannot be spotted by Heartbeat sensor, portable radar.

Not affected by CUAV, EMP.

The difference between Black Ops and MW3 is that there is a counter to Ghost, which is the Blackbird. And to counter the blackbird, Counter Spy Plane, Jammer and Decoy grenades can be effective, thus providing the ghost some personal defence.

However, in MW3, there is no reliable counter to the Assassin perk, thus resulting in it being overused and overpowered. Counters that work are Recon, but effectively only have 2 flashbangs and a grenade, and maybe XM25 which is really cumbersome to use. The Pro varient of Recon is practically useless as if you're already in a gunfight, either you or your opponent will die. And 10 seconds is just miserable.

The other counter is the Recon Drone. Which works out pretty ok, aside from the fact that you're a stitting duck, you spend about 1 min not getting kills, and people using assassin don't show up under a red arrow.

With such filmsy counters, Assassin is really the superior perk in all aspects. While I do agree that such perks are needed in CoD, there are serious balance issues between the perks. Marksman is totally negated, and so are the killstreaks. Recon can be countered by Dead Silence, which someone using Assassin can use as well, thus negating effectiveness. Recon Drone's low assist exp and time lost does not motivate many players to use it, unless playing in a preset team.

There are just too many benifits to be gained just by using Assassin Pro. Even CUAV or EMP, which helps mask non assassin users, are completely negated by Assassin.

I suggest that Marksman would still be able to spot Assassin, and less effective methods of detection like the portable radar would still be able to detect Assassin for personal defence.

We all got eyes. Use those. Unless you're blind... in that case, you're most likely not playing the game anyways. Assassin is fine. It helps against the UAV spam. Especially now that you don't even have to die to get them.

Yes, I agree that an anti UAV is important. That's why there are SAM turrets and Stingers. And Counter UAV. And EMP. Also, unless you can see through objects, it can be very difficult to see a person with Assassin hiding in a corner or through a crack. Or when you walk through a doorway and suspect someone is there, do you turn left or right? Its a 50-50 chance that you get him before he gets you, and the odds are he's pointing his barrel at the doorway with a UAV up.

MW3 was made for quickdraw to be the dominant second tier perk. Nobody can deny that the amount of people using quickdraw out number assassin users by so much you cant even compare. MW3 in a nutshell- SOH/Quick Draw/Steady aim, insert smg with rapid fire. If you actually think that assassin is the most used/dominant perk, quit playing this game. You are clearly a red dot chaser with zero skill.

        • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

I think that it's the most dominant perk when I call in a UAV in ground war and see only 2 dots. Happened too many times. You think I'd waste my time forming an argument over 1 or 2 games? Also, not everyone plays a rapid-hip-fire-spray-and-pray. So what are the other weapons there for then? Maybe you should consider quitting the game if you cannot use anything else other than said method. I use quickdraw in most of my classes and I rush with almost any weapon. The point I was making that you missed is that it is too easy for anyone who uses assassin to own. Sure, if you own me with SOH/QD/SA I'd applaud your skill. But if you repeatedly kill me with Blind Eye/Assassin/Dead Silent then balls to you.

          PP90M1 Rapid Range

          MP7 Rapid Range

          Slight of Hand

          Overkill

          Steady Aim

          Specialist Quickdraw-Blind Eye-Dead Silence.

Personally I think the people that ONLY use Assassin are people that can't play the game, because they get killed out of the corners they camp in everytime they take it off.

I like MW2.  It was more balanced than either BO or MW3.  You had a choice between killing someone faster or hiding from everyone, unlike this game were nearly 50% of the community just whores Assassin/Blind Eye.

Assassin in a nutshell-Hide me from the mini map so I can camp in corners.

Now I actually don't mind Blind Eye as a perk but think it should be in the same perk slot as Assassin.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

I really wish people would stop making these threads about assassin being so OP. This perk has been in EVERY CoD game since MW1, yet nobody complained about it until Black Ops came around.

Face it. All you really want is for them to make the advanced uav the same as the SR71 from Black Ops. Only problem is the SR71 in BO was the most overused and overpowered killstreak in the entire game. It is nothing more than a 45 second wallhack for everyone on your team.

I can understand why so many of you want such a broken feature to be put in MW3. After all It was insanely easy to get your first SR71, die, call it in and get a 2nd, rinse repeat, and have a nice team wide wallhack for most of the game. And who doesn't love spawnkilling the crap out of the other team, because since you all know exactly where they're spawning they have virtually zero chance of even taking a single step out of spawn.  (People complain about spawnkilling in BO more than any other CoD title)

I also love the common defense of how the SR71 was so "easily" blocked by CUAV and jammer...  CUAV lasts about half as long as the SR71, so even if you throw one up they still get the benefit of a team wide wallhack. And the jammer has such a small radius it's pointless since everyone outside that area can still see where you are.

Simply put the SR71 in Black Ops was the most game breaking, overpowered, overused feature in any CoD game to date. I find it even worse than OMA tubing and MLC knifing from MW2, at least you could counter those. If they actually listen to the idiots (and yes if you want the SR71 in MW3 you are an idiot) then they will completely ruin the gameplay and balance of the entire game.

If Cold Blooded from CoD4 MW1 was never considered to be overpowered. Then how come Assassin, (which is a weaker version of Cold Blooded) is suddenly sooooo overpowered and soooooo gamebreaking.

They basically split it up and made it so that Assasin pro users can't have x2 zoom in speed aka quickdraw speed, yet here you are whining about something that balances out killstreaks and is accessible to everyone. if they are still beating you constantly it's all you, you have the speed to beat them. You can use it too you know?  This is a shooter, not Killstreak warrior mainly like mw2. Everybody should have Blind eye and Assasin classes with how easy support streaks are to get in this game mainly.

Use your Eyes better, have more classes, use them properly and you're good to go. The radar should only be seen as an indication tool. Nothing more. This said two advanced uavs up should light up assassin users as normal dots maybe, but really advanced uavs are now too easy to get as it's. You're a retard if you don't use / switch to assassin when needed.

People that constantly only use Blind eye and Assassin, are missing out on other great perks. They are not always needed, mainly Assassin is to balance out uav spam.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

I've been using the Specialist support package. It's great for giving me the protection I need with assasin while I don't have to abandon using the other perks. It keeps me in the game with gun on gun and I find it far more valuable then the few kills I can rack up with killstreaks.

I also find I am doing better with this loadout simple because every kill I get gives me another advantage. If you start off with hardline your first kill will get you assassin if you prefer but also allows you to earn the streaks with assists or by taking out equipment or that ever present spy plane.

You could start off with assassin but really your just need to spawn in with a rocket, take out a spy plane because there is always one in the air and get assassin right away.

What it all comes down to is you got caught watching your radar instead of where you were going. There's nothing wrong with Assassin or Assassin Pro, there's no "Balance Issues" as you call it.

What's the real problem? That I only get 1 Tactical Grenade now instead of 2. If you're so worried about running around a corner and getting shot by someone camping it out, check your corners. Or even just throw a flash bang into the area before going into it. Problem solved. What moron runs into a building/room without making sure there's no one hiding out waiting for some poor sucker to come in without checking their corners? You, that's who. I had a guy hit me in one game, I ran around the corner, and waited for him knowing he would chase. Mowed him down and I got called a camper. No, I just out smarted you.

I'm tired of you people posting how Assassin shouldn't be in the game cause you keep getting caught looking at the radar. Just admit it, I tend to get caught watching my radar from time to time. It happens to everyone, and there's nothing wrong with it. But there is when you're saying something's overpowered, or isn't balance cause of it.

    • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

Just to declare, I play on the PS3. So it's way easier for someone to point his gun at the door than to sweep the 4 corners of the room.

How many corners are there in the "extremely limited edition" you've got?

I have the full version of the game, and...

Let us count potential and popular camp position you HAVE to be aware of on Dome.
To get from domination spots C to A through the radar-building, you need 6 flashbangs to cover the popular "facing" camp positions on your way from the staircase before A to the actual flag C in domination.

Here is a chart with SOME of the popular camp positions that I could remember while dotting away at the picture.
I'm sure there are more positions that provide cover and multiple enterance threaths.
This is a small map with few corners.
      http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1905/domey.jpg

I simply don't have time to fill out a the camping positions on larger maps, but here's a medium sized map:

      http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/9931/mw3mpmaplayoutbootleg.jpg

      ...

      So.

After you have tossed bangs into two positions and not gotten your first kill or hitmarker, how do you look for campers?

Besides, a hitmarker doesn't help you in most camping positions.
There's still a 50/50 chance for aiming at the wrong corner for most of the good camping positions, and sometimes flashing is impossible because the position is at the end of a corridor so that self-flashing becomes a large threat.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

There are enough counters to UAV that you shouldn't have a perk that counters it as well. I think Assassin would have been more balanced if the main perk ability was immune to CUAV, heartbeat sensors, and portable radar and the Pro ability was immune to EMP and Recon Drone, and no crosshairs when targeted which nullifies the Marksmen perk.  Even without being immune to UAV, I think it would be a strong perk.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

If Scavenger resupplied tacticals then you would see more Hardline/ Blast Shield. As it is now Blast Shield is useless in Core since they nerfed the explosives so much that everyone basically has built in Blast Shield. If they buffed Scavenger + explosives then Assassin would be less dominate in the 2nd tier. Either that or make the AUAV make Assassins appear on the radar. My 2 cents.

I'm so glad that the community is so devided over this as it will probably stop the whining children from getting their way.

I will admit the perk is pretty powereful because they added in the EMP negation, however that was obviously thrown in because the developers knew that EMPs would see alot more use due to support streaks., hell I have been hit with 3 in a single game before.

Coming from someone who was an exclusive UAV Jammer user on CoD4, having the Assassin perk in exchange for QuickDraw is pretty much like not using Stopping Power.

You will always be at a disadvantage to the majority of the lobby.

I always have to be more focused and on my game using my Assassin classes (over my quickdraw classes) as you will more often get gunned down before you can draw your weapon using it.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

But do bear in mind that someone who invests all of their customization into stealth will be at a huge disadvantage in direct combat. If someone was planning on camping, they'd probably be more effective doing it with the perks that actually improve their lethality. A camper using a direct combat class is much more difficult to deal with than one who's using a stealth kit. If the whole issue of abusing corners and hiding places is what's bothering you, then I'm surprised you aren't raging at campers using blast shield or quickdraw instead.

I suspect though that your definition of the problem is simply that these guys can only be found the old fashioned way. Believe it or not its very much to your favor to have never been reliant on the extranneous information gathering methods in the first place. They're only a distraction and even if there was no setup to avoid them then they'd be even more of a distraction. You want a counter to a stealth kit? Guess what, it already exists. Its called just spotting the guy with your eyes and then shooting him in the face. If you have combat perks and he doesn't, his entire kit has been wasted the moment you actually see him while yours stays effective either way.

    • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

If lag didn't exist, I'd believe you.

      Anyway, lets see 2 scenarios.

      1. Camper with no Assassin

      UAV spots him, forces him to either;

      1) Move

      2) Shoot it down with

           1. SMAW

           2. Stinger

      3) Use Counter UAV

      4) Use a SAM turret which eventually shoots down ALL UAVs

      5) Use EMP

      2. Camper with Assassin

      1) Go prone

Assassin promotes being lazy. Also, the FOV in MW3 is only about 60 degrees and I don't have a particularly large screen.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

Honestly, all I think needs to be done is make it so that Assassin users show up on Advanced UAV. That worked against Ghost in Black Ops, no reason it won't work on this.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

I think the Assassin perk is good in itself, but I agree with your point on making the Marksman perk able to spot Assassin perk users from a distance.

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

Assassin perk is useful right now becouse its 10-15 uavs/match

Correct me if im wrong. It'll protect against recon perk! Dead silence reduces recon while assassin don't even show in map when flashed.

Blast shield reduces stun/flash but you still get some flash/stun

  • Re: A Compilation of Assassin Pro Balance Issues and Suggestions

Assassin wouldn't be a problem if there were more counters to the UAV spam.  Its available in two strike packages and is the lowest killstreak to obtain.  The counters: CUAV, SAM Turret and EMP are all in support which I never run.  I'm forced to use Assassin to combat the UAV spam.  I prefer they remove the mini-map and have it only show when UAV is up like in hardcore.
