Topic: Barebones Mode

Izjar11

COD

I just discovered this game mode (I know very late) and have re-lived my MW3 fun. Simply there are no killstreaks (NONE) so there is no need to run blindeye, no need for assassin. You do not have to worry about helis, AC-130's, stealth carpet bombs, amazing drones who fire bad a-ss missiles, etc.

Just fight and do your best to win.

So for those who complain about assassin + blindeye play barebones which include TDM, KC and Dom and have fun simply shooting!

I've actually been interested in this mode for a while, but it takes a while to find a game.  I would prefer an express playlist over this though, like in Black Ops.

I wish there was a barebones Search and Destroy, It's so annoying when you have no way to win because they a Reaper up.

Actually, I still use Assassin on Barebones, depending on the people I'm playing. There's a lot who use those portable radars.

i played barebones pretty much exclusively for my first 8 prestiges. it is so much better for me not worrying about pointstreaks, and not running blind eye. i still used assassin every now and then for the portable radars, but it was still tolerable without assassin. i was able to play around with the different perks more than i do in the regular playlists...

i just wished more people would play it. some times of the day there was only a couple hundred people in the playlist, unfortunately. it was sort of funny how you'd run into the same people everyday. that almost never happens in the regular playlists for me.

I've been playing Barebones almost exclusively since I got MW3.  I still venture out for the other game-modes, but not having to be concerned with setting up stealth and anti-air support classes means you can just run whatever perks you want and just go shooting.  It can be hard to find games if you don't disable DLC, which is a pity.

Its simple, straight-forward gun on gun action is what I think the CoD games should be about. It's a pity it doesn't get more love from the community

I loved playing barebones in black ops but not in MW3.  If there was a barebones mode just for Kill Confirmed (my prefered game type) I would probably play it.

i just started playing this mode 2,it's a lot better with no killstreaks but i think it needs to be changed a bit you should be able to pick any game mode you want to play also i think you should be able to only use specialist,i would have no problem with everyone using specialist but hate choppers or whatever getting kills for people.

I play barebones a fair bit. I usually run with overkill as my 2nd perk. No need for scavenger and assassin is not that important. Here is my best barebones match. A 49-9 TDM :)

Nice score, I either run scavenger or recon as my first perk.

No need for scavenger if you use overkill. you can carry 2 primary weapons then. Not really much need for assassin as their are no uavs. Alot of people do use the motion sensor though

I started to play barebones in order to get weapon XP without worrying about killstreak crap.  Some people in it still run assassin for the reason others have given; portable radar.  Not only is portable radar common, but because assassin isn't being used by 90% like in core/hardcore, marksman becomes a much more viable 3rd perk, especially for anyone using longer range weapons.  That being said, now Quick Draw, Blast Shield and Overkill are now decent options in the second tier, as they aren't drastically overshadowed by Assassin.

There is still a killstreak available in barebones, however.  MOAB.

Its a refreshing thing not to have to deal with killstreaks, it really is. Running the other perks gives the game that needed variation that is missing from the other modes. In regards to the MOAB, because I play mostly TDM I've only seen it twice and luckily I was on the team that released it.

I have tried to get a MOAB in barebones but i alway fail. I have 6 in normal TDM but i always die running out to pick up a weapon in barebones. I get to about 11-15 kills pick up an enemy weapon then die. Usually because it un silenced or its a sniper rifle lol

Amazing difference no more pavelow and ac130 assualt killstreak muppet campers, just good old school fire fights just needs more players....go on just have a go im hooked.

I have never played Barebones till tonight, after reading your post I figured it was time to give it a try, always fancied but never tried.  Dom/KC/TDM are my fav modes so an extra bonus, a nice change as I use specialist anyway so no loss to me.  It is nice to capture the flags/tags without worrying about the killstreaks overhead.

Yeah for now I'll give it a go, not too many players but have had full lobbies tonight.

Barbones is something that the community begged for since perks was installed in the CoD franchise. But it's the least popular as far as number people on the playlist. I kind of find those numbers weird seeing IW and Treyarch community was begging for barebones in the CoD 4 and WaW days.

Barebones is so much more relaxing game mode I have found that with out the kill streaks there seems to be a lot less lag, along with less ppl crying about what gun you are using in game. They still cry that you might have been camping.

Yeah game play is alot smoother 2nd day of playing....trues hit maker shots, not half a magazine to drop enemy anymore can use 2nd tear perks more not having to worry to much about detection from  uav's come on join the fun at last.

I just discovered Mecenary which I love. My clan is obessed with S&D and I hate that game mode. You can't really find a normal game mode without going up against and organized clan. So Mercenary gives me the most fun when playing solo

    • Re: Topic: Barebones Mode
      spankhiccup

I find i get absoloutely tanked when i play mercenary. I dont know why!! I seem to play better in the core modes

      • Re: Topic: Barebones Mode
        Ungrateful_Dead

I noticed my KDR was a little poorer after switching to barebones from core, and I chalked it up to not playing for killstreaks.  I tend to play a little more recklessly since death isn't as important.  That especially holds true for domination, where getting killed a few times while capping isn't feeding an enemy killstreak.

In core, when I have an attack heli up and my next killstreak is a reaper, I tend to play it a little safer until those last couple of kills rack up.  It doesn't have to mean camping, but you ADS or go prone around corners, that kind of thing, instead of just running full Leroy at the enemy.

  • Re: Topic: Barebones Mode

Havent had a go on barebones yet. Went to try it today but couldnt get into a game, not many on that game mode.

Will try again soon as possible cos i get fed up of all the air support on this game. Seems worst than all the other COD's put together.

Used to only get one or two heli's a game or pred missiles. Had a game earlier can't remember which game mode but after every air support there was another. i.e. Cobra went up then attack heli same time, straight after stray run and a pred or two. I think it spoils game a bit in excess like that.

I hate to share this secret but everyone who reads this, know this:

"Hardly anyone plays barebones, and there aren't many good players playing"

hint hint for anyone looking to play and not worry about large clans / super campers / etc this is a place to go.

  • Re: Topic: Barebones Mode

I played with a buddy in a some games last night and had a good time.  It was nice not having to worry about air support.  I used overkill as my second perk, which I hardly ever do, and had some good matches.
