Ever Satisfied in a Loss?  Video

supervelous

Hi All, Got a MOAB on Parish playing Domination, and thought I played pretty well and played the Objective, but we lost the game.  I had 9 caps, 10 defends and about a 500 score per minute.  In the vid I ask the question Is it ever OK to post a loss or be proud of how you played in a loss?  In this game I was playing with randoms, most without mics against a party, and we lost a very close game by 6 points.

I talk about how big Youtubers frequently post loss gameplays and don't really get too much flack for it, and wonder if there's a double standard.  I actually had a lot of fun in this game, did well, and got an MOAB.  Like Vahn at Treyarch says when you win it's fun, and it's also fun when you almost win (close games are fun)

Let me know your thoughts, I'd like to know as well for future vids on my channel, if I should always exclude a loss even if the game is entertaining.  Thanks in advance, I always get great honest feedback from you guys!!

Its a video game. A hobby. So as long as you had fun thats all that matters. If you thought it was a good game, then it was. But then again I am my own person and dont care what other peope think about me or anything I like.

I tend to agree, except the fact that I am doing Youtube and have viewers I also try and entertain, which means I am interested in knowing what people want to see as well, and their perceptions of certain situations, like a loss gameplay.

But I completely agree with you, for your own personal gameplay it should only matter what you think and whether or not you had fun!

I had a very satisfying loss not so long ago when I absolutely tortured three boosters, they kept finding little corners to kill each other but by luck more than skill I kept finding them.  It was TDM so there was no objective as such and I more or less broke even but spent a lot of time flashing them and just annoying them before going for the kill.

I've reported a large number of boosters since day one, it was nice to have a little fun at their expense.

Haha I love messing up boosters and also ruining streaks.   I was in a lobby yesterday playing a full party of 2-4 KD guys, and I was stuck with randoms with most of them having 0.5-1.25 KDs.  We were playing a game of Dom on Seatown and it was clear this 1 guy on their team with a 3KD was going for his MOAB.  Sitting up in the camphouse, picking people off.

We of course got killed in the game, but it was fun hearing him rage when I killed him on a 23 gunstreak, and the satisfaction of knowing if I wasn't in the game him and maybe even 1 of his other teammates would have gotten MOABs.

haha. i love doing that too. pisses them off so bad

Heh.  I'm so tempted to record my games with a PVR, bite the bullet, and play core Domination.  If I know there's a killwhore before a game starts, I'll rock support and run a remote sentry, stealth bomber and EMP to destroy his thunder.

Re: specialist/assault package.  If you play against a party that coordinate stealth bombers and EMPs, specialist is the way forward.  With the Specialist Bonus using the L86, I was able to use it as an SMG in highly concentrated areas of likely combatants.  Had a game on Mission where I succumbed to my solitary death after a slight error of judgement otherwise it would have been another map that I've gone for a full match without dying as I have never done it on Mission before.  Very good for mowing down two enemies or more who are grouped together, such as sprinting from spawn.

I'd probably favour assault on larger maps, with the exception of Downturn.  Makes a change to have a map where lethal air support don't own.

haha, yeah the best defense against a killwhore in Dom is definitely something like Recon drone, Stealth Bomber, EMP.  Recon drone tag is like a death sentence, blackbird-like UAV on them, most people even good players can't get a ton of kills in a row when the entire team knows their exact location and it doesn't go away.

Can't tell you how many streaks I've lost to Stealth Bombers.  Tag em with the drone then call in the Bomber right on their spot!  Just don't do that to me on my streak

    Long rant.

I watched the video and I agree that you played the objective very well but do you think you would had won if say you ran Assault instead of Specialist?

Specialist makes YOU the "one man army" player but doesn't necessary help your team especially when you're playing with randoms.

I mean there's only so much you can do with just your weapon against a team who are calling in Assault/Support pointstreaks. Sure, you have the specialist bonus & a 24/25 killstreak but it isn't a package designed to help your team in objective game modes.

I think the Specialist only works well in TDM/FFA as the only objective is to kill.

Going back to video, If you're capable of going on a 24/25 killstreaks, I'm sure you would got the Predator/Reaper/AC-130 setup at least twice in a game & I believe you would have won the match considering you're distracting the enemy team with some air dominance & supporting your random teammates.

I've come across players/teams in Domination using specialist but end up failing because it requires maintaining your gunstreak whilst with Assault, you can die but call in something to distract the opposing team.

I guess you weren't playing with decent players & you were up against a full party but if I was in your shoes, I would have changed to Assault.

YouTubers do get some hate. I know as I have called out a few popular YouTubers on this. i.e. ignoring all dog tags in Kill Confirmed, capping one flag in Domination etc.

That's just not good gameplay. If you're not trying to win & maintain control of the game before going for "world records" first, why upload this gameplay?

In your case, it was an unfortunate loss & you were trying to win so I'm not going to hate but I would have played this game out differently considering that you're playing with randoms & you were playing with a party.

great, very interesting points vims, great post.  And a very interesting topic of Assault vs Specialist in an objective game.  I don't think there's a 100% clear answer to this.

My value using Specialist is magnified if I have the best gunskill on the team I am playing with, coupled with the fact I am able to defend/cap flags better with all perks and proficiencies, am unseen by the enemie's killstreaks due to having Blind Eye with Specialist Bonus, and unseen by their UAV's due to Assassin, etc.  Those all have value in playing the objective, along with my increased ability as a "super soldier" to keep them off the flags and actively play the objective points.

With Assault, it can also be extremely helpful, both in defending the objective as well as clearing out the flags with something like an AC130 for my team to then cap.  The counterpoint to this is that many times against a full party the streaks are shot down fairly quickly, as at least 1 of the team usually has a stinger or switches to 1 once streaks go up.  You can see (near MOAB explosion) the other team has a SAM turrett up, which would aid them in shooting down streaks.

In those cases, and if the enemy team is using Blind Eye, my Assault loadout is now fairly worthless to the team, and now my ability to cap and defend flags is compromised by the decreased gunskill of Assault vs Specialist.  Any streak that I have to control takes my gun out of the action, and the AI controlled streaks are easier to shoot down and won't necessarily prioritize the objective points in an optimal way.

It's also tough to say because I went on a 25 specialist streak, I would have been able to earn for example 2 AC130's, since the 25 Specialist streak is aided by all perks and proficiencies whereas the Assault streaks would not (but would have the stacking benefit)

I don't think there's a correct answer to this debate, I think it's all dependent on the circumstances of any individual game, with the variables being your teammates, the enemy team, the gamemode, map, etc.   I think optimal strategy and the debate of what helps the team more between Specialist and Assault is a great vid idea!

Once again, great thought-provoking post, I appreciate the feedback.  Keep it coming!

I'll be satisfied with a loss if I personally played well.  No point knocking down people who've played worse in the game as I could set up parties to help weed out supposedly inferior players.

In one game on Mission I was doing really well (think I was 26-4, or something like that anyway) and I managed to bring my team back on equal footing three times with our opponents and then gave them six unanswered kills to go 7400-7000 in the lead.  You know what happened though don't you?  It appeared the prospect of having their kill to be on the killcam was too much for them and they ran like headless chickens.  My side subsequently lost.

In another on Village I had a similar KD and my enemies were stupid enough to get owned by my Pave Low, giving me 13 kills with it.  We went 13 kills ahead and somehow we still lost.  Forget how the scoreline went now as it was some time ago.  Gave me the jets emblem though - 10 or more kills from a single killstreak, which I nearly always use.

Simple, did you play as good as you could? Did you have fun? If yes to either one then the loss was not a bad thing at all; no matter what anyone else trys to claim because of what kill streaks or package you used. In the end as long as you are sastisfied with how well you played and you had fun then that is all that matters and not what anyone else here or on YT or in the game thinks.

Thanks for the reply.  I agree, it's a game and while you should want to win, playing your best and having fun are the most important factors!

Yes, I try to remind gamers this as much as I can that its all about having fun before anything. There are so many haters, people not being respectful, way too critical, raging its crazy. I am never satisfied with a loss and ones who truly follow me here no this.

I posted a moab video a few months ago on the map Oasis where we loss the game but i got a moab and let everyone know how disapointed I was in the lost.

Some of the extremely bigger youtubers can get away with posting lots of moab losses because their fans just want to see moabs.

Now I enjoy going for moabs just as much, but one of my main reasons i started youtube is because i want to help others get better as well as to remind each other to have fun because many seem to forget that these days.

All that matters is that you tried your best and you have fun. Like the Parish Gun fight video i posted. I was on a good specialist streak but i was still runnning around capping flags and trying to defend them because i wanted to win. and i died 2 off the moab because my team triple capped all the flags lol and they started to spawn everywhere, but i was still proud in my effort so that is why i made the "How to Win Gunfights video on Parish."

This game is not as bad as many say it is. and i know how tough the COD community can be, but really we all should come together and help each other out as much as we can and it will make us better gamers in the end so when BO2 comes out, we will be ready to go. Good Discussion guys.
