Youtube Videos and Links to Videos are Prohibited

KTPhoenix

Before posting any videos or links to a Youtube channel, please read the forums Code of Conduct at the top of the forum. Youtube videos are not only advertising but also spam. Many people use the excuse that they did not either A) know there where any forum rules (which is a lie considering there are rules for every forum you register on) or B) know where the rules were (another lie considering it states it quite clearly at the top of the page saying "Code of Conduct").

This is a link to that exact thread iif0xh0undii posted which has the Code of Conduct. It has in that thread, what is prohibited and the consequences for doing such:

So please, read the Code of Conduct before you post any type of video on here. There is no excuse for ignorance.

Out of interest - why is there an insert video feature on the forum then? It even gives the example as a YouTube URL... I can't see anyway to read those rules and interpret them as 'Inserting your game clips is advertising'

You forgot C) Didnt read all the rules and too lazy to check. (Not a lie..) There shouldnt be anything wrong with posting a crazy clip everyonce in a while, in my opinion. I dont mind seein them.

Pheonix.  You are making a poor assumption that all youtube is spam. As "7" pointed out, our MW3 game clips are powered by Youtube. Certainly you're not suggesting that Activision/IW doesnt want us showing clips to each other. They love it. Its those clips that keep people talking long after theyve stopped playing. Its the stupid trick shots, and random things that happen that can now be easily recorded and shared here on the forums that they are promoting.

What they dont want is people posting things over and over and over again. They also dont want people posting things about BOPS 2 or anything else to drive interest away from MW3. Theres a bit of a gray area of people posting small funny clips of videos, but when theyre harmless and pertain to the conversation of the thread, Im sure its not really an issue. Clips for Viagra, people trying to sell there modded controllers, and thong or other sexual related clips-definitely a no no.

Your tone is a bit off put to be directed in a thread to everyone in general as well. Making someone aware of the COC for something specific is one thing, but this makes it seem like youve been hired as a moderator.

honestly, i didnt mean to come off like i was a mod. i was trying to word it in a way that people would get the point.

and if they want people to post videos then they need to re-word the COC cuz it is too vague in this case.

Not a problem, I think the mods only dislike it if you're baiting for subs/likes etc. Game clip sharing is needless to say part of the game.

People can post videos as long as they are in relation to a thread which isn't off topic and aren't advertising anything while doing so, example, if I got a quad kill with a claymore (yeah never going to happen) then I would show the video so people believe me.

Also look at rule number 2, it says "SPAMMING: Materials that are complied of complete nonsense", I find this thread to be complete nonsense so is it spam? who knows and who cares.

  • Re: Youtube Videos and Links to Videos are Prohibited

What's the big deal?  If I don't want to watch a video I won't click the link.  Some of the videos are quite entertaining.  If you're not a moderator then stop trying to micro-manage a forum....

  • Re: Youtube Videos and Links to Videos are Prohibited

I think that posting youtube videos that promote discussion plays a much larger role in the forums than posting threads about rules that already have thier own threads.... If people aren't going to read those, why would they read this? As long as videos are on topic or helping to show a point I'm all for them. The CoC has difficulties with this because of the gray area between productive videos and spam.

I think the announcement at the top of the forum has it best. I should work on the wording, but it works.

Why is you tube linked with MW3 ? I'm sure a lot of money was passed over the table for this deal so why would you not be allowed to share vids on the official forum?

Its called advertising. YouTube (Google) shows you adverts when you watch, people paid them to do so. End of story, has nothing to do with MW3 as the service is free... more content means more ads which means more money.

I've suggested before to the mods that members should be unable to post a video until they have either (for example) been a member for a while, made a significant number of posts, or something along those lines.

I do get annoyed by people who repeatedly post the same video and/or just join this forum to bump up the number of hits they get on youtube.  These people take no part, they don't comment, get involved in discussions and on the whole the videos do nothing to help, inform or improve this forum, most are garbage montages that have been done so many times before.

There are some superb videos on here such as from ElMatadory but the vast majority are from members who engage, discuss, get involved and have been around for a while.

honestly, i am just sick and tired of seeing this forum spammed with QS montages. there was a time when i couldnt be on here for 1 week without seeing a QS montage once a day during that week.

and if that means that it cuts people off from posting other montages like the ninja defuse or something like that just to make it fair, then so be it. because technically, the QS montages are all spam anyway. its the same thing being done, just different person.

obviously,i have posted a lot of videos on this forum, not going to deny that. but look at my define camping thread, that got a huge discussion going, one i think was very positive and one that also gave me good feedback. im not going to post a video here if it isnt gameplay related, no one cares if i talk about what i ate for dinner last night.
