Winning vs Ethics

dirty_glove

As we all know there are perks, guns, play styles, and strike packages that are OP or "cheap". So my question is this do you not use them because you feel a certain way about them or do you use them because they give you a better chance to win? I had this discussion with a good friend of mine who refuses to use a certain type of gun because he feels its cheap. I say what ever gives my TEAM a chance to win the game is all fair. Im not talking about cheating modded controllers and what ever else is out there Im just talking about whats in the game. There is certain things I hate in this game as well I hate campers but I understand its a legit play style. (I know I know) I would love some of your input as this is a very vocal community.

I have come to the mindset that everyone should use what they are comfortable using. There are pet peeves of mine, but people can use whatever they want. Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean they can't use it. For example, I hate automatic secondaries. I think they should have left pistols and lock on launchers as secondaries, but they are part of the game so even though they make me rage, I accept it. If its in the game, and not a hack or cheat, they are entitled to use it.

That being said, I have some things that I personally never use because of the way I feel about them. I use only pistols and lock on launcher as secondaries, I just feel they are more of a challenge and satisfying to get kills with.  I never use Noob Tubes unless I am working on the challenge, and have never unlocked or used the XM25. I rarely use Assault or Lethal Kill Streaks, I like to earn my kills and not have an AI controlled streak do it for me. I play a lot of HC TDM, so I do use the Stealth Bomber because it helps my team by clearing out areas where the enemy might be camping. I never use Deathstreaks like Final Stand, Dead Man's Hand, or Martyrdom (a waste in HC anyways) as I feel they are just plain unfair. I stick to either juiced or revenge(helps me get back at whoever killed me, plus I can call out enemy positions to my team).

But those are just my personal feelings. While there are certain things that bother me, I understand that others enjoy using them. I rage, certainly, but at the end of the day the beauty of the CoD series is that it offers something for everyone to enjoy.

    • Re: Winning vs Ethics

With your standards on assault kill streaks how can you justify using a Stealth Bomber? In my opinion I would rather have an enemy use assault kill streaks on HC than someone using a stealth bomber. To be honest all I took from your statement about the Stealth Bomber is that you aren't capable of earning assault kill streaks constantly and instead opt for a reward that will get you kills regardless of how many times you die.

        QwertyBoredom

Have you ever tried using Assualt in hard core, its pointless a single bullet will most likely end your kill streak and anything that explodes will almost certainly kill you for team damage, support will actually helps your team and in all honesty using a stealth bomber in HC is a death sentence, what i see from his post is that he i willing to kill himself for his team and thats not somthing you should condem, and yes AI controlled killstreaks take less skill to use than any player controlled one regardless what strike package they are from.

        • Re: Winning vs Ethics

The Steath Bomber is mostly AI controlled because you don't fly it over an area you point it in the direction you want it to go and it kills people. Also, with support kill streaks it doesn't matter if you die you will still get your next reward regardless. So, your whole sacrifice thing isn't so heroic after all. How can you say that it takes a single bullet to end a kill streak then say it takes less skill to get an assault kill streak? I believe you have that backwards. You can play however you want I just noticed how you had double standards and I felt the need to call them out.

I've never claimed to be a high kill streak guy, I don't think that means I am not "good". I am a self-admitted average player. I am all about my team winning. I started using the Stealth bomber because I found that 9/10 of the time, the other team tries to hold one side. If I can get a bomber to clear out that side and open a window for my team to advance, then that is what I will do. HC is not like core, you don't get a lot of high kill streaks as it takes one stray bullet to knock you out of play, and you don't magically regen your health. Its rare to see people getting more than 20+ kills in a game, and the highest I have seen is in the mid-thirties. I experimented with a lot of different setups, but I felt that using the Stealth gives me the best shot to help my team.

Plus, its not like core. I can't just drop that thing anywhere or I risk dying. I coordinate with my teammates to figure out where it needs to go, so its hit or miss. Even if it doesn't get me any kills, it makes a big boom and creates smoke and fire which are cover for my teammates. I have a few assault classes, but I prefer more of a support role on my team.

I could say the same thing about Assault users. They have to use the AI killstreaks to get the kills for them, but I know thats not necessarily true.

Not getting a single kill with a Stealth Bomber is about as bad as not getting a kill with a pred lol. Dont worry ive done it too.

        • Re: Winning vs Ethics

I wasn't bashing you or your kill streak choice I just don't think it's noble to look down on assault then use a stealth bomber in HC. In my experience a stealth bomber usually hurts me (shaking/blur) when one of my teammates calls one in. I run around the map picking people off from behind, so I usually get a lot of kills and stay alive longer than most. I enjoy HC and I don't mind grenade launchers most of the time either because like I mention above, I'm usually killing people from behind. I use specialist most of the time anyway...

            nicedrewishfela

I never said I "looked down" on them. I just said I prefer not to use them. He asked for our opinions, and I wasn't judging anyone else, just my own feelings about things. You seem to have a strong dislike for the Stealth, but again the reason I chose it is it fit in well with my team's strategy.

Half of my classes are Specialist, its my preferred Strike package, but I use Support on several classes as well and Assault on a few others as well.

I explained why I use it, and if you read it again you will see its not a contradiction. I explained why I use it immediately after explaining why I don't usually use lethal killstreaks. Play how you want to play, I'll play how I want to play.

            • Re: Winning vs Ethics
              electricfuneralfire

The Stealth Bomber is a badass killstreak. I think it was like 14 kills in MW2. In MW3 its not in the Assault Package so those of us who liked the SB in MW2 have to use Support to get a SB.

            • Re: Winning vs Ethics

I like the stealth bomber. I also would like you to play the way you like. I wouldn't tell anyone how to play this game. The contradiction that I seen in your post was the statement you made about earning your kill streaks. How is a stealth bomber honestly earned if you happen to die somewhere along the way? I honestly don't see the difference between any of the kill streaks. They all benefit in some way and I use most of them for different occasions. They all do the same thing which is a stepping stone to the next streak which in the end is to help you get more kills and win.

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics

Well there is nothing unethical about using items that were built into the game, perks, weapons, pointstreaks etc. So i really have no problem with a persons choice in set up in that regard. Imo if you play this game enough you will learn there is a counter to everything, but sometimes that counter comes in how you play not just in your load out.

The only problem i have is with those that need to cheat to win or pad stats. That comes in various forms of boosting, spawn killing(not spawn trapping), lag switching, using modded controlers or other glitches, and using infected to inlflate win loss ratio/win streaks.

The only thing I will not use are the dual FNGs andything else for me is sound, there are weapons like the ACR that i don't use but thats because i simply do not like the weapon.

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics

Winning doesn't matter anymore to me than so called ethics. I guess the only  "rule" that I break is using a Stealth when running support. /shrug.

Dead Man's Hand and constant explosive spam are douche moves. I'm cool with everything else.

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics

As serious as I take this game, even I can say whoever brings up ethics as a reason to not use certain equipment in this game takes the game way to seriously.

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics
    Datura

Sure there are cheap perks and weapons etc but what about playing in organised partys/clans. Playing with a party/clan and stomping in pub games is arguably the cheapest move of them all. Yet party regulars think they can moan on this forum and whine in lobby's about OP this and cheap that, yet they enjoy the single biggest advantage of all to ensure wins.

    • Re: Winning vs Ethics
      Noob_Lyncher

Wait, so playing with friends and people I know is cheap? I didn't know that to be good, you had to play with a team of people who do nothing but quickscope and avoid the objective, which ensures you a loss. I guess I should probably stop talking to my friends.

      • Re: Winning vs Ethics
        Datura

So you agree you do it to maintain a clear advantage, your post basically states you play with friends because it ensures the win, I can understand that. My point is if your in a team and your playing against randoms you have no reason to moan about any tactic/style/weapon/perk because a party provides the single biggest advantage of them all. There's nothing "wrong" with it but in my experience beating down randoms when in a party of even only two other strong players makes the victory feel shallow. So to make things more satisfying I use crap guns and take far more risks. A solo player is entitled to use whatever means necessary to defeat a party and ensure the win for the benifit of his crappy random teammates because it takes a lot more effort.

        • Re: Winning vs Ethics
          Noob_Lyncher

I like to play with my friends because they're a funny group. I never send out friend requests, and friends of friends tend to add me, and they all just so happen to be good. That ain't my fault. But we can complain about things like explosive spam and DMH because even IW has taken steps to balance them in some way. DMH was nerfed (thank god), and Blast Shield was buffed for hardcore because of tubes.

As for playing as a team, it takes skill to maintain solid team cooperation in objective games, yet people lie and say that winning like that takes no skill. How is coordination an unskillful tactic? Whenever I don't have a full team, me and a friend will sometimes jump into HC Dom games and molest the enemy team. We may lose if our team sucks, but we give the enemy team a really hard time, and we usually go positive. A lot of the time, my team does better against full teams who communicate, than against randoms who just rush or camp, because we know what the teams are going to be doing, but the randoms just do, well, random stuff in random spots.

          • Re: Winning vs Ethics
            electricfuneralfire

Playing with a team of 3-4 or more is the biggest advantage you can gain on this game by far. Eveything else such as certain overpowered weapons or equipment can be argued whether or not they give you an advantage at all.

Ive discussed this on these forums before. Im not gonna lie, I hold more bias toward full teams than any camper, MP7 user, support killstreak user or whatever else it may be.

If I lose to a team and I end up on there squad the next game I will quit out rather than play on there team lol.

Only a couple of things I find cheap in the game and that's the stealth bomber and the type 95 mostly the rest have been balanced out eg. I hardly see anyone using FMG AGAYBO's any more and the Striker .

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics

I'm not afraid to use things like the "overused" weapons in the game. There is a reason they are overused... And I am going to use them weapons etc to beat out the other team and ultimately win the game.

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics

There is no such thing as ethics or morals in video games and there never should be. It is just a game and not life and death. Those that try to hold themselves or others to any set or morals or ethics about weapon/perk/equipment useage ina video game are taking it too serious and forgetting it is just meant to be played for fun.

I for one like taking the game serious and do hold the unwritten laws to heart because i like it, it is a hobby isnt it? shouldnt you take your hobby seriously, is there something wrong with being dedicated to what you do and how you do it?

Thing i never use: Tubes of any sort. Hate them.
      FMG TFGS
      DMH
      final stand
      Type 95

      portibles of any sort.

The ONLY game I use DMH in is domination... use blastshield pro and a trophy system too. If I'm the only one on my team defending a point, I'll use every advantage I have; killing one or more opponents who swoop in to take that point by using DMH or getting that "tink" when their predator missile hits my trophy system is, imo, legitimate strategy.

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics

My primary loadout was designed to keep most arseholes from b*tching , there's little you can complain about when you're shot up by a half-Brit running around with an assault rifle and a handgun. But in all seriousness, I say just play how you feel; if you feel comfortable with "playing fair" like I do, then by all bloody means. If you feel like some crazed trigger-happy psycho who's obsessed with winning and doesn't give a bloomin' **** about people being angry with you, then to each their own. Although I don't get how this is a big issue, given that it IS just a game and the point is to have as much joy putting bullets in your enemy's face, but that's just me :\

  • Re: Winning vs Ethics
    bicranium

I don't use things like Type 95's, FMG's, Assassin or Sitrep Pro unless people on the other team are.  Once I get killed by a Type 95 or FMG's all bets are off.  Few things more satisfying in this game than MOAB'ing people who think they're good because they can walk around sighted in with Stalker and a RDS/rapid fire Type 95.

Okay as far as playstyles go there's really only objective KD patching that's cheap, and it doesn't even help you win, it just helps your stats so it really doesn't matter.

I never use easy weapons. They're boring. And it ticks me off when 18th prestige kid are using easy weapons. Probably because I imagine them thinking "wow I'm so good" when they're actually using a no recoil gun that excels at all ranges.

No one cares about winning really. Play any game of KC. No one grabs tags anymore. In domination it's all about trapping a team and patching your K/D and getting easy poinstreaks from flags. In demo it's all about defending a site you're supposed to be planting without planting and killing the headless chickens that rush towards you to patch your K/D. Drop zone is the worst of all. It's basically a quickscoping playground. I've seen games at 2000-2000 after the time limit.

It's all about enjoyment. Some people get enjoyment by getting thousand upon thousands of ACR kills by using it every game. Dunno how
