11 Reasons to love (or loath) Black Ops II

robbierocket
game aspect
if all goes well...
if not...
my prediction
1. MATCHMAKINGCOD could be savedexpect more lag resulting in frustration & the slow death of CODit's hard to imagine things won't improve after 2 years of rubbish but we're unlikely to see MW2 levels of matchmaking, BOII should be playable (just)
2. HOSTINGhosts will be stable & have a minor advantage, migrations will be rare, rewarding gamers for staying in lobbiesexpect lag inconsistencies within a match, lag spikes & a lot of migrations see above, plus the system to reduce host advantage has brought more problems than solutions & is unlikely to change
3. PARTY FUNCTIONALITYplayers can enjoy fun & social evenings with their friendstime spent online per person will decline and COD community will be less "team" orientated and become more "solo"not perfect & unlikely to be integrated into intra-party matchmaking where the "whole party" is matched
4. PLAYLISTS & DLC INTEGRATIONmatches can be found quickly with or without DLCplaylists will be confusing and exclusives playlists or new maps will be hard to get a decent game onit has to be done better than MW3, I'm hoping for 3-4 bundles spread out like WAW
5. SPAWNINGspawn deaths, spawn trapping & flip spawns will be goneexpect MW3 spawn deaths, BO flip spawns and the possibility of having no chance of survival after spawn on occasionbetter than all CODs except WAW, but 3-4 team TDM will be messy
6. KNIFINGit will go unnoticed and sit harmoniously with the gamepanic knifing and stealth Usain Bolts will run around with bladesway better than recent games and similiar to WAW, OHK but no lunge: you'll have to touch the enemy
7. WEAPONS, PERKS & STREAKS BALANCEthe game will be fair & fun for everyonepopular guns or familiar classes will rule the games & cries of OP will be heardbalanced, just like WAW and BO
8. INNOVATIONBOII will earn its place alongside the other Treyarch CODs as uniquegimmicks, whistles & bells will hinder rather than aid the experienceit will stand alone as a thoughtful game
9. CUSTOMISATIONpeople will return again and again to unlock, progress & create their own digital avatars & soldiersporn-emblems & poor game functionality will be spotlightedcustomisation will be the best yet & gamers will feel ownership over their creations
10. PS3 QUALITYthe game will utilise more of the PS3's power & function wellit will feel like a nasty poor portnot as smooth as X-Box but still good
11. CAMPAIGN, ZOMBIES ET ALthere will be other legitimate reasons to play Black Ops IIeverything will rest upon multiplayerthe campaign will inspire the multiplayer continuation & Zombies will be many gamers' salvation
OVERALLit will be amongst the best of CODit will be part 3 of flawed sequels (BO, MW3 & BOII), following the trilogy of classics (MW, WAW & MW2)Black Ops II will have enough to put it up towards the better CODs but some of the biggest issues will not have been fixed to a satisfying level

Wow robbie, you sure do like to post great threads, I am leaning towards the nots myself, for the PS3 version, the 360 version looks and runs great.

I think the only things I care about are points 1 and 2, and I share your predictions.  I hope we are wrong.

"time spent online per person will decline and COD community will be less "team" orientated and become more "solo""

This has already happened for me in MW3. I never play in party's anymore. The lag spikes were so much more frequent in parties.

Sad but thanks for your insight ribbierocket-damus!

Nice post - you love the charts eh ?  lol

I simply want a SMOOTH running game - with none of the issues of Black Ops on the PS3.

I am hopeful lessons were learned and we will be pleasantly surprised.

    Fingers crossed.

I'm sorry but black ops was not bad.. MW3 however was..

Aside from the lag and hit detection issues (snipers firing blanks) in blackops, it was a fun game.

Well, there was more to Black Ops than that.

In the first 2 weeks there was a lot of instability and not just like the first day of WAW or first 3 days of MW2, this was not just party function issues and matchmaking, this was constant disconnects, PS3 freezes and horrible host lag compensation with horrible hosts. After 2 weeks my W/L ratio was around 1.00 which on MW, WAW and MW2 had been between 1.70 and 2.20.

The freezes subsided but party functionality and disconnects lasted until well into December, along with the lag and/or hit detection you speak of.

Constant fixes brought Black Ops up to playable by January and things looked ok for 3-4 months, until the outage. When PSN finally came back after 5 weeks, Black Ops was never the same. It had never been lag free and always felt like a poor port but now the hosting and inconsistent lobbies were extreme. Whereas formerly I could have 1 bad match in 5 or even 10, now bad matches were every other, and this got worse. When MW3 came out I was saved....

        ...for 5 minutes...

4 months after that failure, my merry band of COD-ers returned to Black Ops and found it to be so poor. I've gone back through all the CODs since.

        - MW is still good but I have literally played it to death, it is sometimes hacked and none of my mates will join me on such an old COD.

-WAW (my fav.) is also hacked sometimes but has so few players that matches always place me on 2 bars. Again my gang don't play it.

-MW2 still has it moments but is regularly hacked, and it was not the most balanced game anyway, with all the OP insta-kill stuff.

Then there's the terrible moments when you cannot believe how bad Black Ops plays so you put in MW3 and in shockingly fast time, you acknowledge that BO was not the least functional or frustrating.

So I'm back with BO until November 13, but feeling very very far from...

WAW is also my favorite cod.  It's just unfortunate that you can't go a few matches without running into some hacker.  As for MW, I used to be able to play just fine, but about a year ago it decided to not show the gamemodes anymore.  I figured out that I can get them to show up about 1/10 times when I go wireless and wait in the game mode screen for about 5 min until they show up.  Unfortunately It isn't worth the wait.

I don't know what they did but about 2 months after black ops came out I've gotten lag issues on every cod.  I own every cod but the first, and i've never really had any problems until black ops came out.

        • Re: 11 Reasons to love (or loath) Black Ops II

my opinion is its going to be alot better than the other cods. like in my opinion if the connection is good it will deffinitely be the best cod ever made. like these guys pretty much made an entire new game,i do see they really made a great efford to make this game, they really seems the guys that wants to be at the best of the best. and i just dont see that they will put that much efford creating all this to never though about fixing the lag and just kill their game that they seem to put that much efford. i know its going to be good cuz for first time on the cod i can see that they really want to make an epic not just a few changes to update it and make millions with it, like they did with mw3. that is my opinion.

Black Ops was bad because Modern Warfare 2 was better then it. The main problem with BO other then the lag, slugishness and hit detection was that it was boring as hell.

well if thiss game failes, ill simply stick to MW2, and go to some other group, MoH or new jamesbond(which is ironicly made by 3arc too)

  • Re: 11 Reasons to love (or loath) Black Ops II

You are a COD genius, I think you will have a lot of correct predictions. I'm paying $80 for my hardened edition and if I don't get good quality gaming it may be the last cod I get, and I'll just stick to MW2 or BO

yeah pretty much, but i have a few differeing predictions from you robbie. they are as follows:

7- it will be mostley balanced. there will still be a few classes that people create that are a little more OP than the rest... but nothing serious. people will still cry but it wont be as bad as they make it out to be

8- it will be better than BO but some things will still hinder more than they are worth (i sure hope i am wrong)

9- what you said, but there still will be some kids that wont grow up, and treyarch will have to try its best to police up porn emblems

10 i cannot comment on because i am an xbox gamer

  • Re: 11 Reasons to love (or loath) Black Ops II

It can't be worse than MW3

Fantastic compilation of best / worse and expected results.

I love these charts you are creating robbie!!  Good ****.

I can 100% without a doubt say this if BOPS2 has matchmaking/lag issues like MW3 does, then I am done with this series.  They'd deserve a good kick in the junk if after 2 failures (maybe 3) they can't solve this issue.

  • Re: 11 Reasons to love (or loath) Black Ops II

Going for loath, from what I've heard and seen they did nothing to improve anything what so ever to the game. Just the same as MW3 is just a poor dlc on a disc for MW2 with nothing new and only bugs on it.

    Anyway nice looking thread

  • Re: 11 Reasons to love (or loath) Black Ops II

World at war was the classic that pulled me into the COD franchise.  As for the Modern warfare series, not really into them.  Black ops was a good game ( besides the technical side of it for Ps3. ) overall.  BTW, nice post...
