How important is connection in MW3...

So here is my connection: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2241740467.png.

What I want to know is this an  appropriate connection for MW3 because I feel like everyone kills quicker than me, I get shot round corners. I slowed my P90 down in the vault and up close it took 8 bullets and he still didn't die.

Thanks Connor.

Check the ttk's of guns. That is the total timed kill without bullets missing. Compare it to your ping and that will give you reaction time. Factor in your gun and you've got a decent indicator of how well you will win a firefight.

From what I can tell from your connection (pretty good connection), you are at a huge disadvantage because of Lag compensation.

Lag compensation is punishing you for having a good connection and rewarding players with poor connections, I myself suffer from this crap in 90% of my games.

Search it on google/youtube, theres lots of information out there.

It's all about distance. If you're from the east coast and you're playing with players from the west coast you're going to 2 bar or 3 bar if you're connection's ping is higher than 50. Truthfully my connection is BOO BOO.

If i'm playing by myself it's mostly 4 bar and maybe some jumps to 3 bar (because MW3 pairs me with people in my state) but if you're in a party with people across the country from you're going to have a somewhat bad connection unless you're on the host's team.

I've seen host that make a whole lobby 3 bar the whole game so it could just be you getting the bad end of them watching porn while they play. But there's ways around it. Sure, the best idea would be just to call your ISP and tell them to upgrade you to their "platinum" package but don't waste your money. Just Try to find players that live near you to play with. That's what I did. It didn't completely fix the problem but it made it better.

All you need is around a 3 down and 2 up connection. The game really doesnt use anything above that.

But your upload is pretty low. You got no ceiling whatsoever to play around with without hitting your head.

Raise the ceiling a little higher be getting rid of anything that could be using upward bandwidth. No Netflix, No downloading porn (sorry but you need to give it a rest ).

Just assuming here but dont use a wirless phone connection for example to play online. It seems like that is what you are using. Either that or look for a ISP that has at least a 2 meg upload speed.

    • Re: How important is connection in MW3...

And addition to what this guy/girl is saying, Make sure it is a good upload connection. Most ISPs say they'll give you 2mb's per second but it really just cuts in half. IF you have the money get a T1 connection. It's what businesses use to stream their stuff around the world. Whatever they give you on the stat rating is what you get.

  • Re: How important is connection in MW3...

it is your life blood faster connection closer to the server the better you will be only way to have even comp lan match

  • Re: How important is connection in MW3...

The bandwidth is sufficient but the quality may not be. Your ISP, Virgin Media, is known for having strict traffic shaping leading to a wide variability of performance negatively affecting latency and quality/jitter. They are not even middle of the road when it comes to providing a consistent gaming experience. I used to be with VM  and it was horrific. Do a search on google, these up to date links are typical:

There are many more. You get the idea.

Here's my result. It's never been stellar for me but each update makes it worse and worse. I feel like it's a decent connection and shouldn't get treated like **** by this junky game.

The real problem you have is your ping time. You are testing less than 50 miles from your location. You need to test to places up to 1000 miles away. Your ping time will be much higher. Your upload and download have nothing to do with your connection. You only need 512k down and 256 up for xbox live gaming. I didn't see your packet loss on there but that too could be a problem. Not sure why you got a C- but that could be the reason.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA If you had that connection your internet is AWFUL. Anyone that says that's all you need to play XBOX live is NOT considering quite a few things. I won't go into detail but we all know that a speed like that is a JOKE. In ALL other game other than Modding Warfail 3 this speed would give you a CONSTANT one bar.

As far as speeds, here is mine. Try playing on this......

    Thanks Connor.

Not being Horrible or rude, but that is an absolutely terrible connnection!!

From a MW3 point of view that is a great connection as you would have

a huge advantage over somone with a connection like mine

(I probably wouldnt be able to see you for 1 to 1.5 secs)

    http://www.speedtest.net/result/2259067037.png

This is from my Pc that uses a tiny wifi card

the routers in another room so it looks worse than it actually is

My xbox is Wired thus has far greater speeds

    (normally a ping of 3)

I saw your with Virgin Media, upgrade to a super hub

+ everyones going to get double speed they are

    paying for soon for FREE

    • Re: How important is connection in MW3...
      shonk

Lolz you will never get a ping of 3 on virgin media its 6-8ms to the cmts for starters depending on the qam level

they then bounce you around nearly every core router they have around the country to get to linx where every other isp peers with them

anyway virgin media are the cause of 99% bad games in the uk

as they are the exclusive host pool for uk based games

due to the bursty capping nature of cable even people with 1/2 mbit upstream on cable benchmark 10mbit upstream

add in the horrendous jitter on virgin

add in the linx gw1 overloading for virgin's main peer onto the net

      add in virgin's stm

let me tell you something mw3 caters for people on bad connections like

      virgin its called lag compensation

and people like myself with an actual good connection with 0 jitter 24/7 and ultra low latency get the shaft in every single game almost

the only time a host is ever selected on latency is in a mid game

migration and i get that 100% of the time

pre game lobbys are always selected on the false upstream

benchmarks so virgin media users always get host

Oh and btw cod needs between 30-40k upstream total to host a 12 man

game depending on whats happening at that moment in the game

to play a game online not being host you need less that 3.5k upstream + downstream

every host migration when i get host when that lag hard from virgin media rage quits the game goes from a laggy mess to every single person being a solid 4 bar

ask my clan mates they love it when i get host in a mid game migration tripple & quad moabs happen quite often

      http://speedtest.net/result/2169862666.png

here's one where it migrates over to me from a rage quitter

i was an assist off mine for the quad when the game ended
