Do we really need OVERKILL ?

HotRodGod

Maybe its just me but earlier i was playina few rounds of KC. I was using my MSMC class with the pick 10 system maxed.

Then later I cam across a sniper rifle on the ground and grabbed it just to mess around. Getting closer to behind a guy, pressed triangle to switch to my knife, and my MSMC came out and i was i shock. Afterwards i tested it again,,,,wouldnt you know it i had to primary weapons without using overkill on my wildcard spot.

So i guess we can have 2 primarys anytime we want, didnt know we could do that. And if so, whats the point of using OVERKILL ???

My appologies ahead of time if yall knew this. For me I didnt know. It was kinda funny due to me having a few drinks in me already.

So you can QS with the DSR AND point and spray with the MP7!

    Lol.

I played against a xXsnipereliteXx (example name) douche last night and this guy had overkill with a the Remington as his secondary. This guy didn't get a single sniper kill he just sat in rooms killing guys with his shotgun for 5-6 games. I asked him why he used overkill if he was gonna shotgun people all game long and he said that he rarely ever used the SG hahah. >95% of his kills were from the remington.

Same goes for so called "snipers" that equip double Kap 40's and run around all game with them claiming that they're quick scoping. I never understood why overkill was in the game its a fake sniper perk.

ive just started on the overkill challenge, its quite good as it means i can work towards getting 2 of my primarys gold at the same time.

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?

Do you ever read those little hints and tips that appear at the bottom of the screen while the game is loading? One of them clearly says if you have no secondary and pick up a weapon it will become your primary and your selected primary will become secondary. (Not those exact words, I tried to put it in layman's terms...)

So... yeah we really do need Overkill as when you die and respawn you won't have the two weapons.

    TRU11

uhh you could always pick up any weapon on the ground and replace it with 1 of yours.

been that way since MW when i started lol.

this is why scavenger is overrated as well. run out of ammo? pick up a weapon....use a pdw57 or an mp7 or maybe the mtar?   ammo is abundant.  scavenger's only use these days is to put a lethal and a tactical back into inventory.  i wont sell that short but i dumped lethals and tacticals in favor of more perks long ago.   i do keep one class with emp's ( the greatest grenade ) to switch out to in case of emergency but when picking perks scavenger is easilly discarded for me.  same for overkill.  the only reason to use it is challenges.   you want that calling card? then use it otherwise its worthless. and a suppressor and cold blooded is just as good as ghost these days.  they really nerfed that perk.

it is very usefull for example when there a many enemys. i often run with e pdw fast meg , supressor, overkill with vektor and supressor.

when i spawn i switch to the vektor. if i run out of ammo at this weapon i change to the pdw because its faster than reloading. when the pdw is ouf of ammo i'm reloading. when there arent enemys around i reload the vektor.

this way i can easy kill 6 enemys without reloading.

      very usefull on demolition.

Another example is sniper + smg. at close quarters i run with the smg.

for longshots i take the sniper.

i always use scavenger because mostly the weapons i pick up have strange attachments.

i don't want to have a target finder or granete launcher , mms....

both perks often safe my life.

when yopu play HQ , scavenger is very handy.

for instance you can put 2 claymore and 2 thropy systems in 1 room and pretty get a good defense against pretty much anything.

lil tip: if you throw claymore and thropy system on the ground and pick up a package and then them pick up both again, you will have 2 of each in your inventory without using wildcards

Iv always known you can grab a weapon off the floor and make it your own, but i thought you put yurs on the ground and kept the enemies. i didnt know you can have 2 primaries all the time as long as you didnt have a secondary selected on your pick-10.

Overkill is good for ALWAYS keeping your 2 weapons after death, but with so many weapons all over the place i just dont get the point.

         Ehhh, its whatever.....

Sure, you can just go ahead and pick a weapon up, but you risk dying. You also don't have the weapon you picked up every time you respawn, unless you're gonna risk dying again to get it back. Overkill removes this risk, and allows you to have setups which work with each other. For example, you could pick a Sniper, but you don't want to use a semi-auto secondary and the full-auto/burst are too low ranged. So, you spend a point on Overkill, another on an SMG (the MP7 is probably best due to the fast swapping) and, if you want to, a point on an attachment.

1.) With Overkill, it's also so YOU can choose what weapon YOU want to be able to use as a secondary and keep it that way. There won't always be that ideal weapon laying on the ground, much less one you'd be used to and/or do well with and such.

2.) With Scavenger, similar, as weapons you pick up the ground, their ammo will depend on how much they were already used. I can't count the number of times where my ammo would run low and I decide to pick up a weapon to replace it, only to find that the weapon I picked up is a SMG with only 12 rounds left and no refills...

Basically, sure, you can pick up a weapon off the ground, but there are risks to doing so in some capacity. With Overkill and Scavenger, you eliminate a couple of those risks by making it less necessary to pick up other "wildcard" weapons on the ground.

    Harv72

Overkill means that your SMG secondary won't have a target finder on it.

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?

Overkill just seems like a waste with pistols like the B23R available.

Maybe in other games where Secondaries weren't all that awesome, but Black Ops II really pushes the need for Launchers and Pistols are way powerful to pass up on. I've yet to see a need for Overkill

If there is one thing that has consistently gotten me killed during the last 3 COD versions, it is picking up that shiny new gun up off the ground!  Scavenger is actually a good perk in this game because of the resupply of EVERYTHING; rockets, lethals, tacticals, axes, ballistic knives and bullets.  You don't have to stop to pick up anything.  Overkill can be effective to swap from differnt types of weapons and should leave you with enough ammo, but it is rarely used because other choices are better.

If you are running without a secondary and pick up the loose primary gun on the ground, it swaps your original primary to your second primary.  Of course that new primary may need a reload before you move on, and that pause and reload leave you exposed to the enemy for a short time.  Not really a bad trade off for not running scavenger, but it leaves you with a random choice of guns.

If you are running with a launcher or pistol secondary and see a sweet primary sitting on the ground, you can either immediately pick it up (dropping your own primary), then swap to your secondary and exchange for your orignal primary on the ground.  Or, swap to secondary and then pick up the ground gun.  All of this shuffling takes several seconds, which is enough exposure to get you killed half the time.

I get it i get it......

There are always pros/cons for whichever perk you use, weapons, or whatever. Just the fact that the copy/paste of these games are selling these last few games short.

Companies are MAKING us feel as if these perks are necessary to a game like these, thus taking half the thinking on there part away. SPECIALIST was the best idea that was somewhat original.

IMO the cloaking system in the campaign was a good idea but where was that ? The TAC insert would be awesome if it could be used at anytime to jump back to that spot whenever you wanted, not just when killed. The Dragonfire was a decent add on to this game but would have been great if it was able to "paint" the targets aswell.

Point being is that they wanna give us a onesided replica of the COD of last lear, and the year before.

Give us something we can call new, not cleaned and polished. Next gen consoles are gunna hurt when we get ahold of MW4 and its the exact same thing but with vehicles. These consoles have the power, next gen most definately. But the minds of the devs are lazy and when they do get up and work, they walk slow due to their pockets full of OUR money already.

really thats the best thing about this game...the pick 10.  everybody plays differently and something that doesnt fit my play style i dont have to include.  a sniper who wants a smg as a back up uses overkill, or someone who relys on grenades or bb's wants scavenger.  although in my opinion ( just an opinion ) the b23r or kap 40 are just as good as an smg (if not better).  both weapons allow you to move faster than the smg.  and the people who use traps all that does is show anyone with engineer where theyre camping.  but everything has a use and a kill is a kill.  my strategy isnt your strategy and we can build our classes to reflect that.  high 5 to treyarch for that

COD has ALWAYS been this way. There has never been a huge or significant leap in features from one title to the next. It has always been more of a slow, gradual evolution across the entire franchise, even between Modern Warfare and Black Ops.

They tweak a couple of features, add some new maps (or in the case of Nuketown, re-skin an old map), slap on a fresh coat of paint, and release it as a brand new game.

And the loyal masses of fans eat it up!

This is why I skip every other release, because I never saw enough difference to justify buying every one.

If you use it right overkill can be very deadly. After 8 prestiges of ignoring it I'm starting to use it more. I like using it in objective gamemodes, When on defense I'll use a sniper rifle or assault rifle and when attacking I'll use SMG or a shotgun as a room clearer.

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?
    rlbl

you can always pick up a weapon. The point of overkill is not to have two primary weapons; the point is to have the two primary weapons YOU WANT to have.

The obvious is not always obvious I guess...

    • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?
      Shadow_Alq

RLBL really goes to the point!

I use OverKill on almost every Class firstly because I like to have an Assault Riffle and an SMG but also when im doing Weapon Challenges for 2 of them at same time!

Besides, I dont like to be stopping to pick weapons, trying to find the most appealing one, or trying not to pick a sniper riffle!

Overkill is great for ranking up your own weapons while at the same time delivering some great tactical gameplay!

if you only have a primary weapon and no secondary selected, then when you press triangle to change to your knife, if you pick up a weapon while using your knife then you will have 2 weapons until you die.

try overkill with 2 AR and grenade lauchers on them lol.

    easy kills

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?

overkill is usefull for assault sheild users

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?
    kellysa111

I played against a guy once that had overkill. he had a sniper and a shotgun. lol

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?

Welcome to Call of Duty when you could do this for everygame just getting rid of your secondary weapon like a pistol, you have two primaries.

Im glad Overkill Is back and I missed it from W@W I think its a great wildcard/perk to use. I didnt really use it much in MW3 but playing search with a primary weapon out and a shield on your back can really save your life and can allow for alot of stratiegies.

  • Re: Do we really need OVERKILL ?
    h1r0l3r

I think it's a waste of a perk/wildcard. I generally use Primary gunfighter and a Perk 1/2/3 wildcard so I don't have room for a secondary. If I want another primary, I'll just pick one up off the ground and run with that. I do especially love the wannabe quickscopers that will Overkill their DSR/Ballista with a MP7/PDW. And they'll usually just shoot with the SMG all game long anyways so why even bother with a sniper/Overkill if you're not going to use it? One of my favorite overkillers are probably the turtles. The ones who equip a SMG and then leave their riot shield on their back.
