I can understand waiting for a bit, but I think you're going to be disappointed if you are waiting for a cheaper version without Kinect. I just don't see them going down that road. For better or worse (I think better) Microsoft is looking a few years down the road with this console and I think Kinect plays an integral part in that plan.
Haha, I never noticed that until you said something.
I've been drooling over this for two weeks because of Target's mistake, haha. Of course Microsoft temporarily banned him fairly quickly that night, but we still got about three or four hours of information out of him that made me want my One even more. Several people were joking that he did more to sell the One in four hours than Microsoft had done in six months.
I'm not sure about a Kinect free version either but I'm pretty confident there'll be a price drop sooner rather than later. Certainly quicker than last gen for sure, these machines are just PCs now and manufacture costs should drop pretty quickly. It'll still take a killer app to move me though. Let us know how it goes.
I think Amazon got a lot of the bad consoles. My guess is it was a bad lot (or two or three, haha) and they just got to be the lucky recipients of those bad consoles. Their negative comments were about 30% the other day when I was checking it out.
