Call of Duty Black OPS 2 Blue Screen of Death - EV...

Hey everyone, I have seen around that this is a common issue, but no real fix has been announced.

Just like alot of other people, when the game loads, I am blue screening. The blue screen error code shows that it is graphics card related.

Does anyone have a fix??? And ACTIVISION, what are you doing about this???

System Specs:

EVGA Z77 FTW

Intel Core i7 3770K @ 4.7GHz

EVGA GTX 680 @ stock

16GB GSKILL SNIPER 2133MHz

120GB Corsair Nuetron GTX

2x 60GB Corsair Force GTs (Raid 0)

Custom Water cooled Loop

Corsair HX 850

Solution

Hey Guys, just un update. I was playing with settings last night and I figured out a possible fix for the BSOD issue with my current nVidia Driver 310.70. I am not sure if this has fixed the problem, or if it will work with other nVidia driver versions or ATI cards, but I did not BSOD last night at all while playing for over 2 hours.

It appears that FXAA may have been the culprit. I set FXAA from Yes to No last night, and I did not Blue Screen at all. Upon doing some research, Black Ops 2's output may have issues rendering FXAA which in turn causes a VRAM issue which can cause Blue Screens or a Windows Dialogue saying "Windows Color Scheme has Changed."

So, if you are being plagued with the BSOD from Black Ops 2, try turning FXAA to No and let me know how it works out.

Is this a pc that was built for you or did you build it yourself?

What graphics's drivers are you running?

What version of windows are you running?

Try downclocking your card.  That card is a beast for this game so you won't lose any performance really.  Also, if your CPU is overclocked you may want to try downclocking that too if the video card downclock doesn't work.

My card is @ stock clock. To underclock it would make no sense at all.

As far as my cpu being overclocked, that should not make a difference either. My OC is stable enough to run Prime95 and Intel Burn Test for over 24hrs with temps maxing @ 45c. So in essence an OC would not cause ONLY Black Ops 2 to Blue Screen as it is not that CPU intensive.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it but I think this may be more of Treyarch and Activision needing to fix this...

Question is, do they even read these forums???

Would it hurt to try?

No, it would not hurt to try, but its kinda missing the point. As you see from Yesindeeds post below, he faces the same issue but does not have a rig like mine.... I see it more as a waste of time since it is only game specific. This must be addressed by Treyarch and Activision.....

You don't need to underclock your card or cpu!

I am running a very similar setup to yours but abit more powerfull for gaming.

2700K @4.8ghz

8Gb 1600mhz CL9 DDR3

2x MSI GTX 680 2Gb in SLI

1x 250Gb Corsair Force 3 SSD

Now back to your issue.

I had a similar problem when trying to run the game on Windows 8 but as soon as I went back to Windows 7 I had no issues.

I know you said you have tested your cpu which is fine, as if it is surviving 24+ hours on Prime and IBT then it's stable so you don't need to worry about that.

Have you benchmarked your graphics card or stressed tested it?

Have a look in here

http://community.callofduty.com/thread/200550140

It is a thread I created but have only just been able to bump it.

You may need to reinstal DirectX etc which that thread has links to.

It's worth trying as much as you can and then post back.

Benchmarked gpu, and it is fine. Used 3d mark / vantage and passmark. All were ok.

Steps taken before coming to forums with no fails

Memtest 12 passes

3D Mark 11 2 passes

3D Mark Vantage 2 passes

Folding@home 6 hours

Passmark 1 pass

IBT 24 hours

Prime95 32 hours

Reseat GPU 1 time

Black ops 2: 3 matches Fail (Smiley Very Happy being a smart a**)
