Is COD BLOP's heading for the same fate as SOCOM?

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 General Discussion Forum

I started out my console experience in the SOCOM franchise, a very enjoyable (to me) tactical based shooter.

Everything was seemingly going well then they started making changes away from tatical based shooters and went towards the faster paced games that were killing it in the marketplace (CoD).  Socom 4 hit the market and it was a huge let down in the eyes of the core fan base.  It was followed up by an even worse game called MAG.

Zipper was trying to appeal to a broarder fan base and make more money.  It failed though because it moved away from the very thing that made SOCOM so great, tactics.  At the time everyone knew if you wanted spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn die you play CoD and if you want a serious tactical shooter you played SOCOM.  Sales however, said they had to conform.  Zipper was disolved and SOCOM is no more.

Today we have CoD BLOP's trying to emulate numerous games in the market place so that they can make more money (probably driven by Activision).  It appears it has nothing to do with what the fans want.  I have been playing CoD since the first Blops and the Blops experience is what has held me here.  But now watching Blops 4 trailers I see a faster paced version of Rainbow Six Seige with some Overwatch sprinkled on top.  That is HUGE kudos to those studios having a company like TreyArch emulate your game.

Blops 4 is an emulation of something else and it doesn't look like the top tier game of Black Ops for CoD.  I am afraid with this move CoD franchise is going to go the way of SOCOM.  I am hoping they have time to right the wrongs.  Am I off base here?  I can't be the only one that see's this, there is a huge amount of dislikes on the trailer, I am thinking this is the fans way of saying CoD is moving in the wrong way.

I personally do not like to be forced into playing a class of character because it has been snached up by someone who joined before me.  So your left with the scraps.  out of the umteen videos I have watched I haven't seen anything that suggests that's not what will happen for the casual player.  I want to play the class I want to play and play it in hardcore mode.  I would have loved to play a campaign but I can't even get that.

Anyway, what are the thoughts out there, is the Rainbow Six Seige version of Blops really what the community wants?

Thanks for your time reading this, please keep in mind these are my opinions, they may very well be wrong but they are still my opinions.

The more I see from the game, the more I get the feelings they are mixing up some other games, selling it for new innovation, but just copied things from other games into their game.

I´m still positive about, but have to see more, and how this "new" game mode plays...

I just saw some news that there are now 10 confirmed specialist. This makes it a litlte more exceptable vs only eight that had been previously discussed. They really do need at least 20 I think to make the forcing of one. The more specialist to learn and master the more engaged players will become in the game.

Even if the bring in some specialists from BO3 I would be OK to mix it up some. I wouldn't mind seeing the return of Prophet, Outrider and Spectre. Would rather see newer and more creative options but if they are going to lock 1 specialist per game, they need more choices. The nice thing about it only being 5v5 in this case, you only have to master 5 specialist vs 6, I suppose that doesn't matter though. I have been pretty critical about this game but if that is the way it's going to be, as long as they add more specialists, this could work.

If I am not mistaken, I think Prophet was actually the dude with the sniper in the trailer (animation trailer). They brought back a lot of the Bo3 specialists but I don't think all of them are going to have the same weapons. Like I don't think the Tempest is coming back, as that gun was seriously rediculous and for game modes like control, the tempest could wipe out the entire point. Which makes me think they wont be adding weapons that are capable of doing that sort of AoE damage. So perhaps we will see what weapon he had before the Tempest as a part of his background story.
