Ridley Ransom's “Tidal Vortex” remained at the top of the box office for the second consecutive week, posting a $103M three day total and increasing its total haul to a staggering $309M ($471M worldwide). Sasaki International Pictures executives must be giddy about the financial windfall this third entry in the action-adventure series has generated to date.
The young adult book adaptation "Chrysalis Grove" scored second place with $53.5M. This supernatural romance thriller proved to be the perfect counter-programming to the action heavy Vortex, with a production budget of only $13.5M.
Coming in at third place, "Black Lotus Syndicate," starring K-Pop sensation Dagger Kang-Hwan, once again surprised in its third week taking in a healthy $47.5M.
Meanwhile, "Centaur Court", the SFX-heavy rom-com about a basketball-playing centaur, flopped domestically. The film generated only $10.6M on 4,781 screens but fared well overseas, taking in over $81M.
