Here is the answer to the question, "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
The answer is, yes it does and the proof is irrefutable.
You would never send someone in the forest to hear if a sound is made when the tree falls because the requirement is that no one is there to hear the tree fall. You must send a deaf man to watch the tree fall. Only a deaf man can tell you whether or not a tree in the forest makes a sound when it falls.
Now, you might think this answer is crazy, but it is true. Very true. Because we know that when a deaf man goes to a Metallica concert, he will not hear a single note of "Enter Sandman" played. But we also know that he would never say that Metallica does not make any sound when they play.
Why would he never claim that Metallica never makes sound? Because he can feel the movement of the air.
Sound is made from the movement of air.
Since the deaf man can feel the movement of air when the tree falls, he does not actually have to hear anything to be able to tell us that sound was created when the tree falls.
But he will tell you that, yes, the tree make moves air when it falls and, therefore, creates sound.
So, the answer to the epic question, "Does a tree in the forest make a sound when it falls if no one is there to hear it?" is a definite yes. But only a deaf man that hears nothing can prove that a tree makes a sound when it falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it.
edit - you could never send a blind man. A blind man would be unable to see if it is a tree falling or Godzilla attacking.
..and what about a tree wrapped intensely in cotton wool?
...and the deaf guy feeling air could be an incidental breeze.
LOL - that's why I said a deaf man could tell us but a blind man could not. The premise is the tree falling, not that it was wrapped in anything. If you condition it with being wrapped in cotton, then someone else can condition it with using a recorder.
My 2 points there were just for entertainment value or food for thought. How about a cotton (wool) plant falling?
Leave it to Gieco insurance to answer this epic question ...
But what qualifies as sound. What men can hear of every vibration of the air? Because than a tree doesn't even has to fall to make sound.
Only because VuVu is OP just like SaND and GRaSS
Apparently "How do you mark an answer as Helpful" is also OP.
