Yes, but there is a lot cheaper options than Alienware unless you want to pay for the case.

Myself and my brother built our PC - and neither of us our overly geeky. Building a custom PC gives you much better bang for buck. What we did was select equipment online and then asked the computer store if everything was compatible.

Tips - choose equipment that can future proof itself. You want a motherboard that not only takes what you put on it now - but can expand. Select a case that is well ventilated and has room to spare. Your CPU should be near top of the line (not a piece you want to change for a number of years). We got i7 3700 (something like that).

We also got the computer shop to actually build it for a small fee.Honestly - that Alienware setup is not a bad set of benchmarks to work off.

We spent $2000 on  custom build that would cost $3000 - 3500 shop bought.

I built my computer! It's really not hard. It's a lot cheaper than buying a built one. The awesome thing about building your own computer is it's customized to your needs/wants. You can say you built it and you have your own unique custom built computer!

Just do a little bit of research on what you want/need and how to build it. I think you'll have fun doing it. If you need any help, you can ask me or any of the guys around here. We're more than willing to help!
