Call of Duty Players 'Aren't Hardcore Gamers', Says Infinity Ward

Ok, ok. Don't shoot the messenger.

But according to the following article written by Luke Karmali for IGN

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/10/21/call-of-duty-players-arent-hardcore-gamers-says-infinity-ward?...

Executive Producer Mark Rubin goes on to say

"It's kind of a weird, ironic thing to say; They aren't hardcore gamers, or even gamers, but they play Call of Duty every night. And those guys are going to continue to play regardless of platform. So I think not only will we continue to engage with that existing player base, but we'll take next gen and see how far we can go with it."

Seems to me like a bit of a weak story, and a little narrow minded to even label gamers in any way.

Whether you play Call of Duty or Candy Crush, you are a gamer.

Any further label place upon the word gamer is a mere reference to frequency of play and nothing more.

Its as base as labelling people for their musical tastes or how often they listen to it.

I think what you'll find Mark meant was the majority of people who play CoD do so as a choice of  entertainment , as opposed to being what the dictionary.com definition of a "gamer" might be.

Playing a game for entertainment doesn't necessarily mean you're a gamer i mean i read a loads of books that doesn't mean im a "scholar"

If you are Mark Rubin then I apologise if I took your words out of context.

But it still leaves me puzzled as to why someone who plays games isn't a gamer!

(Oh, and you can't call those ones on the top shelf, books! )

im pretty sure im not Mark i've stood next to him a few times ...wait a sec if i am that's some seriously markception going on right there

I get what you mean though with the whole gamer word, i guess it boils down to is someone who just plays games a "gamer" , to me a gamer would be the sort of person who'd goto a midnight launch as opposed to what i think mark was referring to someone who'd say pick a game up when they next went to their local supermarket  same as they would a dvd say.

and sorry to disappoint my "top shelf" is my collection of clive cussler books

Ok. Just to satisfy my curiosity.

After 5 long years of playing CoD on the Wii, the only thing I have ever got back from Nintendo is a yellow cube with question marks on that makes boingy noises!

Does that make me a gamer or a 39 y/o father of two with some serious mental health issues???

(and the only midnight launch I ever went to was the Wii U at NYC, which was an eye opener for someone from deep dark Southwest England)

Defiantly a gamer, just the fact that you go to a forum to talk about a game says enough.

At least you don't have 4,000 post like me. xD

My aunt told my parents I need to go to therapy because I have a so called addiction to video games.....nananannanananna

What I have is a small fraction to what others have. There will always be someone better or someone who plays more than you...

Don't tell your Aunt but I have 4000 strong posts over on our 'Parent Gamers' forum.

But it's ok, because I pay the bills, it's my house, and my TV.

And nobody can stop this loser from playing video games (apart from the Mrs, A.K.A. 'The Hammer')

I feel you. I don't have a girlfriend but I do have a very good friend who can basically force me to do anything she wants.

Damn women, getting in the way of world domination and such....
