Twitter can be a place of great information transfer. Unfortunately, I heard some very saddening news minutes ago. Rik Mayall has past on
To quote Superpook "He made anything funny"
To honor the bloke that gave me so many laughs I thought we should have a laugh ourselves...so
Who are the great comedy legends?
Such sad news, enjoyed watching the majority of shows he was in, some I never got chance to see, as comedians go the others I enjoy watching are sketches/movies from the Monty Python crew Rowan Atkinson and Morecambe and Wise.
I just heard myself, I am so saddened by this, he was one of the best ambassadors for the new wave comedy movement that defined my generation and I will miss him very much.
Like you Falcon, I woke and discovered through reading everyone's tweets that the people's poet has passed. It's a very sad day indeed, and being brought up with a british father I was inundated with all kinds of british comedy. From Benny Hill, Eric Sykes, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, and the great Young Ones.
But to say who is a comedy legend? Rik definitely, Ben Elton, Nigel Planer, Ade Edmonson. I could go forever, but let's not forget Billy Connolly.
Seinfeld , & Ricky Gervais the Extras , & the Office UK, watched em' a few times now, to early to become legends but funny ,
Michael Crawford made me giggle along with John Cleese & a few other English actors from different shows.
New Zealand"s own Billy T James was funny as bro, thou the tv shows were not (NZ Legend)
Jennifer Saunders was a classic female performer
Some Black American comics have got good shows as well from the 90's ,maybe more family orientated
I didn't get a chance to watch many overseas shows growing up so I missed out on alot of the shows some have mentioned ,the ones I've mentioned were specially viewed on a " when can" basis
Let's not forget these two
Whether it is Ab Fab, or the Vicar of Dibley. Champagne comedy.
