To people complaining about Campers...

Ghosts XBOX 360

Is COD ghosts the first shooter you've ever played? If yes, then I can understand.

But if this isn't your first shooter and you are still complaining about Campers... Then keep reading and I promise you WILL become better at shooters LOL.

Complaining about campers is exactly like playing a fighting game and being angry that people run away from you and spam special moves. You think to yourself: "This is not fighting, you are supposed to fight me up close like a man of honor not run away!" WRONG. The reality is that all characters have different fighting styles and strategies. Some are designed to be strong up close but have poor defensive options. And other characters are designed to have a strong keep away but a weak close game. That is what makes those fighting games balanced: The fact that every strategy has a counter strategy (zoners >  grapplers, grapplers > rushdown and rushdown > zoners). Otherwise only one kind of fighting would be effective and the game would get boring really quickly because everyone would just use the same character and do the same thing.

Well it's the exact same thing in shooters. Camping is only one strategy. And yes, it's the most effective one in SOME MAPS that encourage sniping. But it's not the end all be all.  In fact, camping is actually quite hard in this game. Yes, don't laugh, protip#1: just try to camp if you don't believe me. By trying to camp for yourself you will not only realize how hard it actually is to truly "camp" the whole game or even extended periods of time, you will also better understand the POV limitations and various problems that snipers run into in each map. Which will help you in turn build a better strategy vs campers.

The size of some maps, the good level design and the random (sometimes awful) spawn points make it extremely hard to hold down the same spot for more than 2-4 kills. And because of the kill cams it becomes extremely obvious were campers are sniping from and that makes it increasingly harder to cover all angles (especially when 2-3 guys are coming after you).

Which brings me to my next point: Campers are bad players. YES. The truth is most campers are really bad players because they are extremely predictable and they lack general skill. Especially the ones that never switch it up and just stay sitting on the exact same spot. These types of players are my favorite victims because they become very angry when you catch on to their camping tendencies and overall sniping patterns. However, if you accept the fact that Campers are bad/predictable players, you have to accept that getting owned by a camper means you are being outsmarted by a bad player. You shouldn't complain about it, you should be asking yourself "why can't I beat/outsmart this bad and predictable player?". The answer is that you are being even more predictable and careless than them.

You have to realize this: the only reason why some campers manage to get 10-2 and 15-4 K/D ratios every game is because there are people who keep running into their crosshairs in open field and don't even TRY to avoid/go around obvious camping zones.  So protip#2: be aware of camp spots. In every map, you need to be able to recognize what are the spots where campers like to hang out (e.g. the watch tower in prison break, the boat or houses in whiteout etc) and you have to assume that there's an enemy camping at every one of those spots. Therefore you need to respect their field of vision and know what grounds are potentially fatal to walk on.  And if you are new to the game and don't know which are the camping spots, pay close attention to the kill cams when you get sniped but also watch carefully where your teammates are sniping from.

protip#3: Take cover. WELL DUH. I know it seems awfully obvious but it clearly isn't otherwise people wouldn't complain so much about campers. When I say "take cover" I don't just mean crouch behind some wooden box/crate. I mean "stay out of sniper's sight". So this is an extension to protip#2. Once you know the camp spots and "danger zones", you have to be aware of what the sniper is seeing from his point of view. You have to imagine that you are the one trying to snipe someone and you have to recognize what parts on the screen are the easiest and hardest to snipe. e.g. When you are camping on the Watchtower in the Prison Break Map (http://unofficialcallofduty.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/ghosts-callouts-prison-break1.jpg) the easiest parts to snipe are "the stumps" and "the hill". The hardest parts to snipe are the "construction yard", "the pipes", "barrier" and "flowers". Simply because you cannot check those other spots without putting yourself in an extremely vulnerable position. So as someone trying to beat the camper located in the watchtower, you need to keep all this in mind: http://s13.postimg.org/xxyjfm8uv/countersniping.jpg

protip#4: Keep an eye on your squad members.  It is VERY IMPORTANT to know when one of your nearby teammate got killed, where they got killed and how they got killed. If a teammate close to you got sniped, chances are you are next unless you retreat/take cover or take out the threat before they take you out. This might seem obvious to some, but I have played a ton of hardcore games and it's very annoying to watch my teammates get killed right after me, completely clueless as to where the enemy is shooting from. If you paid attention to the sound and visual when your teammate got killed, it should be instantly obvious where the shooting was coming from and where the threats are located.

protip#5: Listen carefully to in-game voices. Your team doesn't need to have a mic on 24/7. Stop using that as an excuse as to why you are losing. If you listen carefully you can hear the characters yell out where they spotted an enemy. Sometimes your own character can spot an enemy that you haven't even noticed yet. So you gotta take those headups seriously. Because if you can see them, chances are they can see you too!

protip#6: Smoke grenades don't do crap. Well yeah they can work sometimes. But what I mean is that most snipers use the thermal scope or a scanning scope. Either way, they can see you running right through the smoke unless you are using the Incognito perk. So just... be aware of that lol.

protip#7: Take advantage of the lighting. Because most snipers use the thermal scope, this means they can barely see anything in spots where there is an intense source of light or white spots. For example: There are 2-3 spots in Stonehaven Castle where you can stand and believe me when I say the thermal scope doesn't pick up anything.  Some of those spots use the sky as camouflage. But other spots use the reflection of the sun to their advantage. It can be a good idea to look for these kinds of spots if you are looking to outsmart snipers. To find these, use a thermal scope yourself and look for the brightest and whitest  spots on the map.

protip#8: Take advantage of your teammates that use the Riot Shield. Every now and then there's someone in your team that uses the Riot Shield as a main class. Try to stay relatively close to them or at least keep an eye on what happens to them. Because one of their goals is to serve as decoy. Greedy or desperate snipers/campers will often try to take down the riot shield guy, revealing their position to everyone nearby (this is why you can get 4-5 assists easily when using the riot shield. Your squad members do most of the killing, but it's all mostly thanks to you!). You have to be smart enough to recognize how useful the riot shield players are and not just ignore them. When I try to play with the Riot Shield it makes me pretty angry when I manage to get the enemies attention, like I have 2-3 guys shooting at me but NONE of my teammates are smart enough to take advantage of the situation. It really is the worse feeling. When you know there's 2-3 teammates nearby and they don't even seem to realize all the work that you are doing for them. Don't be like that. Be aware of your teammates and understand what they are trying to do.

protip#9: If there's a Sniper, there's probably an IED. These two are practically inseparable. You shouldn't just rush in and try to knife a sniper from behind (unless you have explosive resistance or whatever perk that allows you to survive). You have to assume that they will protect their back with an IED so your first goal should be to make their IED go to waste. Now, this will (or should) get their attention so you have to expect that they will turn around and come take a look at what the fuss is about. That's when you take them out or outsmart them.

Now that being said, something I agree with is that if everyone on both teams camped the whole match, there would be no kills and all games would always end in a draw. So yes I can understand the hate for camping because it has the potential to make games become very boring if too many people on both teams adopt it as the only strategy. We've all had these boring matches where neither team are moving because everyone is camping. So you just sit there looking through your scope and you don't see a single soul for 5 minutes straight. It's really sad and boring. Nobody wants to experience that when they hop online.

It's also very annoying to fight an ENTIRE TEAM that is hardcore camping. We've all experienced it I think and yeah it can be extremely overwhelming. Especially if the opposing clan are pro players that communicate extremely well with each other and cover every possible angle. It's not fun if you are not in a good clan yourself. Chances are your team is going to lose or at least be at a great disadvantage. Personally I think only excelling at camping makes you an average player at best. It is only one skill among many others so an entire team that only camps is in reality very fragile and weak.

The best players are the players who know WHEN to alternate between camping/sniping/defending and when to be on the move. But also when to mix it up while camping and while running.

Hopefully this helped out a few players.

The thing is, everyone camps at least a little bit. Even people like me who run and gun are not constantly moving. When you realize that a high traffic area is building during a match it would be dumb not to camp that area. AND I get many of my kills a game by killing campers because they are such easy targets. Sure it does suck when you are on a streak and then you get killed by the guy sitting in some random corner but that is just how every game is. People who constantly complain about campers are just using it as an excuse for them doing bad.

Campers in OBJ gamemodes that don't play the OBJ are the ones that I complain about.  Nothing worse than someone camping at top Gina's when they only have A flag and are losing by 30+ points.  They obviously should not be rewarded for not playing the OBJ or losing.

They aren't being rewarded they are losing. If they are camping up there and you already have B then why are you running in the middle where they can kill you?

Where did you come up with that assumption?

Well you said that there is a person camping in top Gina's, his team is down by 30, and all their team has is A. Well if they are killing or being rewarded as you like to say then the only way they can get kills by camping up there is if you run into the middle by B which you said your team already had or if you just keep trying to run up into top ginas and trying to kill them, both of which are dumb ideas so that camper up there really isn't that big of a deal or a threat.

Camping top ginas while your team is losing and all you guys have is A is very unrewarding unless of course the winning team are a bunch of idiots.

You like making big deals out of worthless people camping in Gina's don't you? I just explained why the guy camping in top Gina's is not a threat and how he will not be "rewarded" unless you play like an idiot yet all you can do is say "You like jumping to conclusions don't you?" SMH You campercomplainers are hilarious.

That is pretty annoying. Actually, camping to avoid contact w the enemy is terrible. I don't have a problem with a camper if he's defending or helping capture a obj. At that point he's not even a camper, he's a player playing the objective.

Exactly.  I am not a fan of people that just camp in their spawn without even trying for an objective.
