Just... How?

Modern Warfare 3 Forum

A possibility exsists to fix the account hopping problem. It all depends on how much of the money they made in profit from this game they want to spend to fix it. You see, writing patches for a game costs money. After a developer releases a game they have a set schedule they go by until they no longer offer certain types of support. In order to issue a patch you need to pay programmers to write it. Infinity Ward wrote the majority, if not all the code for this game. Activision took part in mainly the storyline writting and customer service side of things along with graphics and whatnot. Infinity Ward knows the code, so they would be the ones writing the patch. The contract they have to work on MW3 only goes so long....they don't continue to pay programmers to write code for MW3 forever, they give the programmers new games to work on and leave the old games alone. Do you think they really want to invest money in fixing problems with this game? This problem will probably never get fixed. Every account has a Special Account ID(not your ally code) that is associated with it. The ID is stored on your Wii save file, so everytime you log into MW3 online, your ID is recognized and the server loads your info to your Wii. Your savefile for online play IS NOT saved to your Wii, it is saved online. Hackers can get ahold of your special account ID a couple different ways and then log onto MW3 using your special account ID to trick the servers to thinking you are the one logging in. So when they log in as you the server loads your account info into their Wii and then they can do what they want with your account, and anything they do will be saved to the online server, so next time you log in it will be changed to what they did to it. If the programmers of this game would include a way for the server to recognize your MAC Address(Unique address of your individual Wii), it could link that MAC Address to your account so that only when you log into your account from your Wii would it allow only you access. Hackers would have a harder time getting both your MAC Address and Special Account ID to be able to hack into your account. It is possible, but unlikely.

These are some good points, however, "triaging the problem" won't "cure the problem." The real problem is that too many development companies "re-use" existing, engines, etc. Once an exploit is identified, it's simply 're-applied' to the next software. No one write to rewrite engines from 0 lines of code.

That's true too, they've used the same engine for CoD since _______. (Don't know exactly which game )

There's a really good timeline of FPS physics engines. It's not only the PE; but other re-use of code in order to meet the RAD timelines needed to crank out application versions in 18-24 months (some less than that, i.e. Madden Football).
