1628: Failed to complete installation

Okay, seriously. I just tried to install the new patch after waiting literally 2 hours for it to download and it gave me that error. Anyone know how to fix it before I rip my computer into pieces out of anger? Yes I have already tried running it as administrator. It didnt work.

yet another fine piece of work from treyarch, this game is a joke, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves, and until god himself comes down to earth and taps me on the shoulder to tell me that hell has frozen over, i will never buy another POS game from treysuck again.

Here is a solution from DrWorm in another thread:

Hi everyone,

I had trouble installing the newest patch 1.4. It kept giving me the error "1628: Failed to complete installation." If anyone else is having this problem (maybe its only a xp64 problem), here is what I did to fix it:

1. Open the Administrative Tools control panel.

2. Open Local Security Policy.

3. On the left side of the window that opens, highlight the Software Restriction Policies folder by left clicking on it once.

4. Go to the Action menu and press New Software Restriction Policies.

5. Now, in the left side of the window, some icons should have appeared. One of them is called Enforcement, and it's icon should look like blue 1's and 0's.

6. Right click it and press properties.

7. In the window that opens, check the "All users except local administrators" radio button.

Hope this helps some of my fellow COD:WaW friends!

You're quite welcome. Glad it worked for you. DrWorm gets the credit though. He did the hard work - I just passed it along.

I am also a Windows XP 64bit user and this was bugging the hell out of me. I run dual OS(32 and 64 bit XP) But I rarely use 64bit except for work and 3 different games, so I was totally lost on why I was getting the 1628 error even though I had no previous installs running or the temp folder interrupting. This completely solve my problem. Thanks for the info.
