    Question about caps.

Could anybody post the reason why caps are not allowed in titles?
I have an idea of why myself, but I'll come round to why I'm asking when it's answered.

because its considered shouting, all caps are not allowed regardless of thread title or post

Its all about netiquette. Having caps makes it look like your screaming and that's what I even think of when I see caps.

Cause you have to use your inside voice?

Personally I am fine with them having partial caps but not full caps.

Yeh it's just screaming "CLICK ME!!!"...it's just something you don't do.

Agree that it's the internet's equivalent of shouting (and harder to read) but also agree re. partial caps being generally ok (sometimes it helps for emphasis or where your thread title is composed of a title and sub-title).

Out of curiosity, why were you wondering?

Was just wondering if the reason it isn't allowed in titles is because it's used to draw attention to the topics. In which case I was going to ask about other unusual presentation methods being disallowed.

Ah k. You mean titles like:
"-->> TopDawg'z Sikest Analysiz of Gunz and Stuff ever! <<--"

I don't mind that stuff that much either - as long as it doesn't make it hard to read the titles. But yeah, I think it's mainly etiquette: caps = shouting, fail = unnecessary, etc.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering mainly, whether it was for etiquette or for unusual presentation of topics.

                              Thanks.

i just follow the rules and they say no all caps in posts or thread title, i think some words in all caps are acceptablt but not the complete title, thats how i work it out

So If I put this for example,
"NEWS: New MW2 video 8/2" it doesn't break the rules right?

                                    not in my eyes

NEWS: NEW MW" VIDEO 8/2 - would get me to post a message asking for its removal, failure to comply results in me editing the thread

I've warned users and asked them to change their title for other things besides caps such as going back and forth between upper and lower case with each letter,, or just being excessively annoying and/or hard to read. There is no reason for that kind of crap as it is just plain annoying to see, makes them hard to read, and is an attempt to draw attention to their topic because they do not feel it can get it on it's own accord for possibly being a bad idea/topic or whatnot.

A few **'s or arrows isn't bad at all, but using them excessively is annoying as well and may be asked to be changed, but not necessarily.

Haha in other words, it seems the general gist of things is: "case by case basis" :P

You know me, I can't just summarize in a few words, I have to write a thesis paper on it haha!

It's simple. Post your thread title with the standard capitalization rules as if you were writing a sentence or book title. It's cleaner. If you have to use crazy capitalization, asterisks, or arrows to entice people to read your thread, then maybe your topic isn't so great. I personally tend to stay away from threads with over zealous titles, as they usually lack original and entertaining content.
